I've just stayed at the hotel in June, and I liked this hotel very much. It's a solid 4-star level of service.
The staff is friendly and ready to help.
Good points:
1) FOOD.
formidable buffet breakfast in a nice bar: great assortment, from several kinds of porridge and cereals to omelettes, eggs and sides like bacon, olives, cheese, veggies, salmon and herring, etc, plus sausages, pancakes, cottage cheese pancakes (the Russian syrniki), cottage cheese (tvorog) and sour cream, let alone honey, jams etc. Plus a table of fruits&desserts. The coffee machines serve you freshly brewed coffee of your choice, and their cappuccino is really good.
Yes, and the breakfast hours extend from around 7-30 to almost 11 am!
In case you don't plan to leave the hotel on this day, you may treat yourself with a buffet lunch at the lobby (at extra cost, of course). The room service is provided by the Georgian food restaurant Mammoon, their lamb is good. This is a Ginza project resto, so I suppose the whole menu is of a good quality.
2) ROOM.
My Twin room was very comfy, from the bed to the toiletries, enough towels, hairdryer daily room cleaning, etc. Kettle and a tea set, TV, everything was provided. The Baltic bay view was an extra joy.
But what I've appreciated most of all were:
good thick blind curtains which provided darkness during the Petersburg "white nights",
a spacious desk with sockets nearby, where I comfortably work on my laptop,
a good WiFi in the room and throughout the hotel.
3) LOCATION
The hotel is located on Vasilyevsky island and would be a good choice for those who don't need a walking distance to the heart of Saint Petersburg, which is on the other riverbank of Neva.
Instead, it takes a 23-minutes refreshing walk (along a beautiful pedestrian way with trees and fresh air slightly smelling of the sea!) from the hotel to the nearest metro station Primorskaya, plus just 2 stops by metro to get to stations like Mayakovskaya, or 3 stops to the Moskovsky railway station. Plenty of buses are also available, but walk+metro is much faster.
WEAK POINTS:
- lack of mosquito nets on the windows
- lack of a hook or something else to hang your clothes on when you're taking a shower
- sometimes there are queues to the reception desks because there are usually 1-2 receptionists at a time, and the hotel is large and full of guests.
That's pretty much all the "weak points", so I strongly recommend the hotel )
Even though place is beautiful and fine staff isn’t aware of how to upsell it’s products. They should be bit more friendlier with the customers. May be because I am looking Asian they just neglected me !
