Lomakin Height is named after the guard of Private Vasily Ivanovich Lomakin. During the war, he served as a machine gunner of the 105th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 34th Guards Enakievsky Red Banner Rifle Division of the 46th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. According to documents from the war years, ten Guards, one of whom was Private Lomakin, led by Lieutenant Vasiliev-Kytin heroically completed a combat mission. On April 17, 1944, near the village of Raskeets in the Suvorov district (now StefanVode), they overcame the Dniester with improvised means, suddenly attacked the enemy and occupied an important height on the right bank in a fierce battle. Their trophies also turned out to be significant: 45 rifles, 38 submachine guns, 5 machine guns, not counting, of course, ammunition. A simple guy who was not even 24 years old, Private Lomakin, even when taking the height, supported the attack of his comrades with fire from a light machine gun. He suppressed three sniper points and destroyed 12 Nazis. Taking advantage of the hasty retreat of the fascists, he and two other fighters penetrated deep into the enemy position. There they were able to strengthen themselves, so when the enemy rushed to attack, they hit him from the rear. Incredibly, only Vasily Lomakin destroyed 16 Nazis in this attack. However, this was not the last point of the battle. The last battle On the second day of continuous combat, the fascists rose for the ninth attack. With well-aimed bursts, the brave machine gunner forced the Nazis to lie down, and when they, unable to withstand heavy fire, rolled back, Lomakin began the pursuit. But he did not notice how he was surrounded by enemies who tried to capture him. Vasily did not let the Nazis in, repelled their attacks with well-aimed machine-gun fire. When he was wounded, he stubbornly shot back, overcoming the pain. First in short bursts, and then in single shots. But now the last cartridge has been fired. The machine gun fell silent. And then the brave fighter, bleeding profusely, letting the enemy soldiers come close, stood up, threw the last grenade at their feet and blew himself up along with the enemies... Twelve corpses of the Nazis were later found at the site of Lomakin's heroic death. It happened on April 18, 1944. A posthumous award was given to Vasily Lomakin and his comrades–in-arms Boris Vasiliev-Kytin, Panteleimon Gnuchy, Talypunurgaev, Georgy Ryzhov, Fyodor Gilet, Vladimir Glazunov, Grigory Korobov, Alexander Biryukov, Alexander Balabaev and Nikolai Chichulin with the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
