Sanremo can be considered the darling of Italy. The small town, which is located on the border with France, with few historical relics and sights, is famous all over the world no less than Rome, Venice, Florence. In the middle of the XIX century, Sanremo was one of the most popular resorts among the Russian aristocracy, even the imperial family vacationed there. Therefore, it became necessary to create an Orthodox church in Sanremo. The Cathedral of Christ the Savior was founded in 1912. The design in the style of Moscow churches of the XVII century with characteristic kokoshnik decorations was developed by architect Alexey Shchusev, the final project was finalized by local engineer Pietro Agosti. Today, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior is an active church, where regular divine services are held in Russian.
