One of the greatest historical complexes in Uzbekistan. The complex was build around the mausoleum of the first arab adminstrator in the region. It is of religious and architectural importance.
Incredibly beautiful architectural ensemble. You should definitely visit. To touch the centuries-old history and distinctive architecture of Central Asia. And the colorful passages between mausoleums are a great place for photos. There are several mosques and mausoleums located here, in which mostly the rulers and relatives of the rulers of several dynasties are buried. There are many visitors, and these are not only tourists, but also believers and pilgrims, since one of the mausoleums was built a thousand years ago to honor a close relative of the Prophet Muhammad (his cousin), and several others belong to the wives of Amir Timur.
King-Zinda-one of the most mysterious and amazing architectural complexes of Samarkand! Ancient mausoleums are distinguished by their elegant domes and unique patterns. This place has not only historical significance, but also unique energy and beauty. Everyone who comes to Samarkand should definitely visit this holy place! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”
“Shahi-Zinda-Odin iz SAMIX zagadochnix I vpechatlyayutshix architekturnix kompleksov in Samarkand! Drevnie mazalei porajayut Swami iziskannimi kupalami I unikalnimi uzarami. Eto Mesto ne Tolko imeet istoricheskoe znachenie, no I obladaet osoboy Atmospheric I krasotoy. Obyazatelnoe Mesto dlya posetsheniya v Samarkande! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”
An incredibly beautiful architectural ensemble, when visiting, there is a feeling around an oriental fairy tale. The guides are very attentive, they tell in detail, they answer questions interestingly, they fascinate with retelling legends and facts.I highly recommend the place for tourism, It will leave impressions for a long time.It didn't take me 2 hours with a guide to see everything. Therefore, I recommend going back yourself and taking another walk to look into every corner of this ancient architecture.
It is definitely worth a visit. To touch the centuries-old history and distinctive architecture of Central Asia. And the colorful passages between the mausoleums are a great place for photos (if you can find a gap between the waves of tourists).
Ticket 65,000 soums (October 2024)
You can get there on foot (15 minutes from the city center), or by bus (№№ 12, 22, 30, 60, 66, 71, 93, 99, 256, M16), the schedule and route of buses from different parts of the city are detailed on Yandex maps or 2Gis.
Shahi Zinda ("the living king") is an ensemble of mausoleums with a 25-century history. A stone staircase leads to the tombs, and to find out how sinful you are, you need to count the steps on the way up, and a second time, going back down. If the number matches, there is a chance to go to heaven.
The complex of 11 mausoleums was supplemented with new buildings until the 19th century. The king means Qusam ibn Abbas, the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad. Above the entrance there is a panel with the inscription: "The prophet said ... that Al-Qusam ibn al-Abbas is more like me in appearance and character than all people."
The necropolis on the hillside of Afrosiab is an ancient settlement from which Samarkand grew.
The beautiful architecture of the mausoleum will be an excellent location for a photo shoot, where, unlike Registan Square, there are not so many people. Advice for those who travel to Bukhara afterward: do not buy silk/cashmere shawls here (at the end of the complex for sure) - in the area of the old city (Nodir Divan Begi Madrasah. right inside) it's fashionable to buy the exact same ones cheaper
A place from a fairy tale, 11 mausoleums, unique in no way, do not visit here, do not see historical Samarkand, and you need to start the tour from here, and not end with this amazing place of beauty. The entrance is paid, but it's worth it, there is also a free path through the cemetery from the mosque, you will get into a low wall, step over and you are on the territory, but it is better to contribute to the preservation of a truly historical heritage.
I definitely recommend it for viewing. We were without a guide, with a guide, I think it's even cooler. The mausoleums are gorgeous, the atmosphere is incredible, and a lot is in the process of restoration, but there's a lot to see. Tickets for foreign citizens are 5 times more expensive
The fabulous Shahi-Zinda tomb complex.
The burial place of royalty and nobility. The main mausoleum is considered to be the grave of the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad - Qusam ibn Abbas, with a small mosque attached to it.
The color scheme of the complex is striking: blue, blue, turquoise and, of course, gold. Majolica tiles, carved mosaics and Arabic script are closely intertwined into a single plot. Each building is unique.
The tombs of the Tamerlane sisters are especially beautiful: identical in structure, but completely different in decoration and palette.
One of the most impressive monuments. There is the second Mecca, the place where, according to legend, the cousin of the prophet is located. Each of the buildings is magnificent. Especially in the evening with the lights on.
A place of attraction for all tourists! During my 2 days in Samarkand, I visited here twice. The architecture and color combinations are simply breathtaking! These are tombs, but the atmosphere here is somehow not repulsive, but on the contrary, attracts visuals.
An impressive place. Very beautiful. It's definitely worth a visit. One question remained from the visit, for some reason, comments on the sights are written in Uzbek and English, and requests for donations are in Russian.
A very interesting mausoleum complex of the Timurid dynasty.
All the beauty lies in the design and in the tracery of the structures supporting the vaulted ceilings.
If you are in Samarkand, be sure to visit!
The complex of mausoleums. An impressive place, definitely worth a look.
It is best to visit in the morning, after opening, there will be much fewer people and you can take a quiet walk, look at everything and take beautiful photos.
The place is stunningly beautiful, it's better to come in sunny weather, and early in the morning, when there aren't many people, the incredible beauty of the streets, the place is just fantastic!
It is advisable to get acquainted with this place in more detail before visiting, to learn about historical moments. Then it will be interesting.
It's a beautiful, albeit difficult place.
It's quiet here.
I wanted to sit in the mosque for a long time. It's easy in it.
Shahi Zinda in Samarkand is a place that simply amazes with its beauty and history. Visiting this unique architectural complex was an unforgettable experience for me. The charm of ancient buildings, frescoes and mosaics, as well as the atmosphere of antiquity and grandeur, permeates every corner of this place.
A walk along Shahi Zinda seems to take you into another era, when the majestic Islamic world reigned here. Narrow streets, ancient mausoleums and mosques, all this creates a unique atmosphere and impression.
I recommend visiting Shahi Zinda to all connoisseurs of history, culture and those who want to immerse themselves in the wonderful world of ancient times. This place is definitely worth a visit to experience the greatness of Samarkand's unique heritage.
An impressive place, definitely worth a look. Of course, it's best off-season, when there are almost no people there and you can take a quiet walk and see everything.
It's beautiful, but this is from a series of photos "expectation is reality" 😂 weekday, morning, and crowds of people - we only met more on the weekend in Timur's mausoleum. With a good guide, of course, it is interesting to hear about the history and about the features of architecture. Be prepared for a steep staircase, especially it is wonderful when descending 🙃
Shahizinda has a special meaning for our city! In addition, this place is considered the religious center of the city! The memorial has a great view, the architecture is simply magnificent!
It is a very beautiful complex. Beautiful mosaics on the walls. There you can walk for a long time, look at the intricate patterns of tiles on different mausoleums inside and outside. We were also told about the opportunity to make a wish (to do this, make a wish at the bottom and then count them while climbing the big steps. After walking through the territory, when you go down, you need to count the steps again and if the number matches, then the wish will come true. As strange as it may sound, not everyone has the same number of steps). I was glad that there was no market inside the territory with clothes and souvenirs, as in other places where we visited.
A unique architectural monument of Samarkand, which is a striking example of medieval architecture in the east. And of course, this place is one of the revered places of Muslims.
Like all historical sites and the main attractions of Samarkand, it impresses with its beauty and architecture. There are a lot of tourists, but beautiful photos can be made. It's probably better to visit this place early in the morning or late in the evening! You can take a guide on the spot.
A city within a city
I found myself here on my last day in Samarkand and would have been very sorry if I had completely ignored this place.
Must-visit
The "architectural ensemble" itself stands on a hill, which adds to the entertainment both from the outside and from the inside.
Hello readers of the review. For the first time I was in Samarkand there are a lot of attractions and one of them is Shahi Zinda! It's very interesting to touch the story! I recommend.
It is a very beautiful complex, I recommend you to visit it! However, there are an awful lot of people, Instagram photos will not work. It's a long way from the center, it's better to take a ride.
Very beautiful. I watched it both in the afternoon and in the evening. I recommend to inspect it in the evening. All the ornaments look much brighter and more interesting and it is easier to breathe in the evening. The backlight is detailed and well thought out. In the evening, the whole ensemble is more impressive.
The most accurate impression that Shahi Zinda leaves is the atmosphere of peace and tranquility that can be felt here. Here you can escape from the hustle and bustle of the modern world and enjoy solitude and a meditative environment. We walked late in the evening, there were no people, a beautiful backdrop and immersion in the mysticism of the place.
A very atmospheric place , very beautiful, beautiful mosaics ,different mausoleums do not look like each other .It is worth taking the time and taking a quiet walk, looking at the ornaments .I recommend you to visit.
It's a beautiful city! I've dreamed of visiting since childhood! I recommend it to everyone, you won't regret it! And in my opinion - the most atmospheric!
It's a very beautiful place. It is mandatory to visit. I liked it the most in Samarkand. Although, from my point of view, it's not very ethical to walk around tombs...
The landmark of Samarkand.
They didn't take the tour, they offered it for 80,000. Although they say -10,000 per person at the entrance. That's the only reason, when asked how, they said the old prices were.
Overall, it's beautiful, calm, and interesting. The information was listened to via an audio guide as a result
