It's a beautiful place. I thought it would be difficult to climb, but the climb is quite comfortable. Inside there is an ancient church and an inexhaustible well. There is a view of the domes of New Athos. The view is mesmerizing. The tops of the domes shine and sparkle in the sun.
The eastern tower of the Anakopian fortress on the mountain. Inside there are stairs up to the observation deck. It's cool inside and you can take a break from the heat. At the top there is a view for many kilometers around. Far to the right, even the outlines of the Sochi Olympic facilities are visible on the horizon!
We were in New Athos and decided to climb to the ruins of the Anakopian fortress. I must say right away - it's better to go up there early in the morning or in the evening (when it's not very hot). How magnificent the views are, it's so hard to get there... (well, or my wife and I are out of shape)) The climb is really quite difficult - on foot uphill along a stone road that winds in a serpentine along the mountainside. I am glad that an "inexhaustible" well awaits you at the top, which allows you to quench your thirst and wash after climbing. One last push remains - and now you have climbed the tower. It is difficult to find words to describe how beautiful the view of the sea, the mountains, the city with the monastery is... I want to sit on a bench and admire this beauty. Do not deny yourself this pleasure, stay there for a while and just look around... We also stayed a little longer and realized that for the sake of such beauty, it was worth coming here and climbing.
As a result, the whole adventure took us about 2 hours (it was easier to go down, but I didn't want to at all)) you need comfortable shoes, at least a minimum supply of water for the ascent and, probably, a sunscreen will not hurt)) Have a good experience!)))
