We rested in the artists' cottage at the end of July and beginning of August. Very hospitable and friendly host and hostess. We lived in a comfort room, stunning sea views, air conditioning, refrigerator, hair dryer. We arrived late, the owner met us at night, helped us pick up our things. On the territory of the artists' cottage there is a picturesque staircase, along which there are gazebos where you can rest. The lift also works. The hotel itself is located in staraya Gagra, a very quiet place, nearby there are cafes: "Barabulka", "Clouds". This hotel has its own beach, where you can rent sun loungers with umbrellas, ski, diving, paragliding. There is a colonnade nearby. It is a very picturesque place. Excellent breakfasts, which we had until the evening.

We chose a vacation in old Gagra, we chose a hotel based on photos, when we arrived, it was a little different from the photo, but nothing, the receptionist met normally, the food was delicious, the owner was also a very friendly man! But the woman who was sitting on the lift ruined our whole vacation with her dissatisfied face, answered all questions very rudely, honestly did not want to go to the room, since this woman always met us! After checking into the room, the room was not cleaned, we wrote to the administrator, fixed everything in the morning, and then cleaned every two days!!!!!! It is a very big request to change the woman on the lift! This is not only our opinion, it is not pleasant to be in a hotel surrounded by such people!!!!!!!

It's a great place. It is located on a mountain in Staraya Gagra. The owner is the famous artist Gennady Shotovich Bartsits, there is also his gallery at the hotel, which you can visit, unfortunately, we never got to it.
Drinking water directly from the tap is very convenient.
Beautiful view, the sea, as in the palm of your hand. A feeling of unity with nature. Downstairs, near the sea, there are good cafes right on the beach with delicious food and a pleasant atmosphere. There is a lift, convenient if you are tired and need to go up to the hotel. We vacationed here with our family in July 2024, we liked everything.

They were in early July 2023. The atmosphere is amazing. Beautiful sea views from any point, greenery, tropical plants, gorgeous air! The rooms are not new, but this is not the main thing for us on vacation! We lived on the mezzanine in a triple room, the room is spacious and has its own huge veranda with a sofa and tables. The breakfasts are decent!The staff is helpful. The lift was a plus, but sometimes we walked up the picturesque stairs. Yes, there are many of them (220)! But you can sit in the gazebo on the way up or benches, there are plenty of them! On the territory of the hotel there is a gallery of the owner of the hotel, Genady Shotovich Bartsitsa, Honored Artist of Abkhazia, where you will be given a tour of his works. Gennady Bartsits himself is very friendly, constantly goes out and communicates with guests.The beach is not crowded, that's the main thing. At the exit to the left, there is a 7-minute shop and a Bastion canteen, they feed decently. There are a lot of cafes and restaurants on the embankment where you can sit in the evening. The Colonnade, the Castle, everything is within walking distance. The main thing in old Gagra is that there is no such crowd of people and you feel that you are really relaxing in all this beauty! Definitely, I recommend a hotel if you want a calm, measured rest without a crowd of people! There were positive emotions and a desire to return to the artists' cottage again!

We have been vacationing here for several years. The place is amazing, atmospheric and, most importantly, cozy and isolated from the hustle and bustle.
The numbers are for different wallets, which is good.
The sea is clear and, very importantly, the beach is empty, at least in June in this place. Delight! The best place to get away from people😉

The place is beautiful, the mountains, the sea view is gorgeous, it is not difficult to get to the sea, there is a cable car, plus a beautiful path with ladders surrounded by fruit trees. The breakfasts are without frills, but dense and varied. The only thing would be to clean the room better..and when we left, it was not perfectly clean, and during the entire stay (9 days) we never changed towels or wiped the sink...and the staff is polite and friendly. I do not recommend room 20, you can hear too much stomping from above, the lull is only from 10 pm to 5:30 am, and so the hotel matches the price. And again, great location and gorgeous view of the sea from above.

I've been to the "Artists' Cottage" twice, everything is quite good! I only slept in the room, in fact, the rest of the time I walked and enjoyed Abkhazia. There is not much of the usual luxury in Abkhazia, so I did not have high expectations and requirements. They didn't cheat anywhere, everything is as stated in the description of the cottage. We had a rest in September 2022, we were so delighted with the location and the hotel itself that we will return to it more than once! The hotel offers such stunning views, the whole of Gagra is in the palm of your hand!!! The room is decent, all the rooms have a sea view! No hotel has ever caused me such emotions as the Artists' Cottage! You live surrounded by mountains and extremely beautiful nature! A wonderful elevator that works without interruption, there were no difficulties when climbing or descending, this elevator is just the highlight of this hotel around the fruit exotic trees and palm trees, while going down and up just enjoy this beauty! The sea is cleanest, the beach is sparsely populated, and most importantly all the sights are within walking distance, the Colonnade, the Seaside Park, the Prince of Oldenburg Castle, the Gagripsh restaurant, the beautiful embankment, you just plunge into this atmosphere! An unforgettable place! An unforgettable vacation! We will definitely be back!!! ❤

We have just returned from vacation. We really liked the cottage, the beautiful territory, the wonderful view, the stairs did not bother us, but we sometimes used the lift. Delicious and hearty breakfasts. We lived in a family room, the room is not big, but cozy, good water pressure in the shower. From the wishes: it is advisable to change the wallpaper in one of the rooms. I also liked the beach of the hotel, it is not crowded, the sun beds are 100 rubles a day. We visited the art gallery of the owner of the cottage, I really liked it, it was informative.

Good Morning to everyone.. . I want to say that I read a lot of reviews here before arriving, and went a little in doubt because the reviews are very different. I will share my experience a little bit.
For this price, you will definitely not rent here, and even at the same time there is a condee in the economy. I have lived both in economy and in comfort. A visiting diver lived in the economy, he lives here for the summer (a good man) and this is an indicator of those who have been vacationing here for a long time and even more so come for half a year to choose the best for this money.
Another huge plus is a personal mini funicular, which makes it very easy to climb to the top (no one has this here, even the former Soviet ones have not worked for a long time)
The owner himself, Gennady, is an interesting person.
Probably one of the main points to understand why the reviews differ so much for me, everyone has their own expectations. Please note that you are going to Abkhazia ... (you need to write about this separately) and the comfort of the room is just fine, the bed is 200x200 if not more and the view is gorgeous from the window!!!

A great option for old Gagra. If you take a house closer to the sea, then you will be between the highway and the railway, if you take it higher, then the view is beautiful and away from the railway. You can hear the trains, of course, but you get used to them quickly.
A separate plus is the presence of a lift. Although it is homemade, it helped a lot, you can't walk to the top. We timed our return so that the lift would work.
The hosts and staff are friendly, the nature is beautiful. The beaches are sparsely populated. Umbrellas and sun beds are free on the nearby beach, if you say that you are visitors to the hotel.
The breakfasts are simple but hearty. You can have lunch and dinner at the nearest Rusalochka coffee shop or walk along the beach to the Abata fortress (10 min.) there are many nice cafes.
One, but significant disadvantage of this hotel is the cardboard walls, phenomenal audibility. If you like to sleep, that's a problem. If there are children in the hotel, this is a problem. The children from above and from the sides of our room fell asleep closer to midnight (or later), at seven o'clock in the morning some of the guests were already waking up and talking in the hallway, near the door, near the refrigerator. The refrigerator is on the floor. Every word is audible! There was even a thought to hang a blanket on the door to reduce the audibility. For this, I remove the star, but otherwise, everything else is fine. I would go there again. Or I would look for a hotel on the same level (higher) and with a lift.

Vacationers walk up the stairs themselves (more than 200 steps) or a lift delivers them! The place is very beautiful!!! The views are wonderful. Good afternoon! We stayed at this hotel in May 2021. Beautiful, modern room with all amenities. It is very cozy, both in the room and in the hotel itself. Friendly, hospitable hosts. Due to the fact that the hotel is located on a mountain, the room offers stunning views of the sea, mountains, sights (all are within walking distance to visit them). The hotel grounds are very green and fragrant with the blooming of various trees and flowers. The owner of the hotel is an artist. You can visit his art gallery on site. I can't describe a single minus. Everything was at 5+. And another important factor: the hotel is a 15-minute walk from the tennis club (6 clay courts).

The lift is intimidating (as we were told, a man has already fallen off it...) The owner is pleasant, the administrator, but Olga (the woman who sits on the lift) with an eternally dissatisfied face, constantly looks askance at everyone and makes remarks (unjustifiably).

We had a rest in Gagra in August.
The first impression of the hotel is honestly "oh", but later assessing the situation price = quality.
We had a comfort room - 2-bed, second floor, children with a grandmother 3-bed - first floor. Our room can be equated to a "suite" in the shutter, and 3-bed, as in a pioneer camp. The rooms are cozy in their own way, the beds with mattresses are comfortable. The shower is not very cozy, the curtains can already be changed, as they smell.
There is a steep wooden staircase to the second floor. The rooms are cleaned every day, the dining room is clean, but the hotel territory is relatively well maintained, in the lobby of the hotel, they have only been swept all days, although it would not hurt to wash, the fountains are blooming, only one works, well, for me in general, it's not clean ...
Breakfasts .., to be honest, with all due respect the hosts did not like, monotonously, pancakes that are baked at lunch, and served for breakfast the next day, pancakes we called them insoles), sausage, for each a cube of butter, sausages, buckwheat or pasta with a cutlet, cottage cheese and all this changes every two days.
The descent to the sea from the hotel consists of 210 steps, steep..., but there is an "elevator", works from 9-21, with a break from 14-16.
The calves ached from the endless descents and ascents for the first two days, and then nothing - they got used to it, this does not concern the descent to the sea, but all descents, starting from the second floor room, dining room, etc.
After descending by elevator or on foot, you need to cross the road to the beach and you need to cross brazenly, since even on foot, cars do not stop, for some reason.. The beach is clean, as you enter the beach from the sand road, and then the pebbles, a huge pebble, the entrance to the sea is sharp, it is inconvenient to enter and almost immediately at the waist, my height is 170.. In general, soap dishes are needed, otherwise you will enter the water not as graceful deer, but as zombies)), the pebbles, in addition to being large, are also slippery.
The water was incredibly warm, but also full of all sorts of bacteria, everyone caught rotovirus, and this is hello to the toilet, despite the fact that both the face and the back, and the temperature..
There is a good canopy with sand and a chaise longue for only 100 rubles.
The owners are good-natured, sociable.
In general, in comparison with other houses with rooms of the same value, I recommend the hotel.
I also recommend the old Gagra, and not the center, it's better to just take a ride there, look for interest.
I concluded for myself that, in general, Abkhazia is not a vacation with children, since neither the beach (pebbles), nor food in cafes, nor shops, nor even the sea (at least August-rotovirus) are designed for this.
Abkhazia is a beauty in nature.

We went up to the cottage on a lift. A gorgeous view opens from above. We went back down the stairs, looking at all the corners of the very well-groomed territory of the cottage. I will objectively divide my opinion into pros and cons, I hope it will be useful for many when choosing a place to stay in Gagra. (slides attached, slides are beautiful, food, views, lifting)
Positive:
- gorgeous view of the entire coastal strip.
- food, although it feels like I got into the canteen in 1995, the food is really tasty and varied. Casseroles, porridges, roasts, cutlets with puree, butter in a square, sausage in a circle, everything is as it should be. Thanks to the chef in July 2021. (Yes, many people ask if it's a buffet - no, what's brought, then eat it. "And the tea? And tea in the Titanic!")
- Air-conditioned room (working)
- Smoking rooms on the streets, you can't smoke anywhere else.
- Location - the park and the colonnade are at hand, two shops are within walking distance, the market is 15 minutes away by bus. The barrels are a 15-minute walk away.
The fact that I could not attribute either to the pros or cons - the house is located at an altitude of 60 meters above sea level, stomping 200+ steps, but stomping along a picturesque stone staircase with a decent slope, vegetation, lighting, benches for recreation.
When you get tired of stomping, the lift functions. from 9_00 to 21_00. The lift is a "hand made" trolley on two wheel pairs, driven by an electric winch, the trolley accommodates 3 people and moves along welded channels at an angle of 38 degrees, from the brakes an anchor and a concrete gameover at the end of the route =) the combination of these characteristics, coupled with a technical understanding of the process and safety - will give you will get a lot of unforgettable emotions, roller coasters and banjo - baby talk. But alas, either a taxi uphill (yes, you can drive up to the cottage by car), or swing your legs, or extreme.
Minuses:
- I read a lot about the hospitality of the hosts, but alas, I met only when transferring money upon arrival, then myth, mirage, sagas and legends.
- the service staff - we must also try to find, if found - for any more or less serious question they send to Irina, who can be caught once in the morning when she brings groceries, I was on guard from 8 a.m. - it did not work. (he does not answer whatsapp and calls)
- According to Gennady Shotovich, the number can not be closed (the lock, you know, is Chinese and breaks with a bang, but they do not steal from us) At the same time, an open room with a key inside can be closed by a maid, I will not tell you about the subsequent quest to find the key.
- According to him, stinky bugs won't give you any trouble if you don't crush them... I think everyone understood what I was talking about. =)
- Clothes dryer (well, we're kind of almost at the resort and we're going to swim and wash) one for two rooms. Given the fact that things dry for two days, due to climatic features, it is easier to lose an accessory in an unequal battle to neighbors. There are no spare ones, there is no money, all questions are for Irina, who is also missing. In general, the hardware store helped out more than ever, I had to buy everything myself (well, a basin, a broom, rags, garbage bags, although they give out bags, I'm lying, they're just funny)
- The rooms are clean, spacious, but a hacky new model. Change of linen once a week. There are pleasant nuances - a swinging and flowing toilet (it will delight you more than once at night by turning on, off and a permanent puddle of a meter in diameter, where you will soak rags), periodic disconnection of hot water, a slightly flowing ceiling in the rain (look for spots on the ceiling, so as not to put a laptop there), spring beds with mattresses from above (you will love the springs or they will love you), NON-closing windows and entrance doors, 4 channels of cable TV, 2Mbit high-speed Wi-Fi/sec on promise, quite often. Bugs, cocoons with spiders on the wallpaper, but this is a feature, I love it. No mosquito nets are provided, so take fumigators, and remember - do not turn on the light before going to bed. By the way, with the lights off, we were pleased with the flickering Chinese diode lamp, because the switch is illuminated. I couldn't stand such a disco all night, so please forgive me, I disassembled the switch and dismantled the backlight diode from there. The previous guests, along the way, just tolerated and squeezed their eyes shut.
In general, if you were a dog with flaws, there are ropes in the household store, you could fix the toilet, but there is nothing.
Relationship.
First you look for someone who will talk to you (I'm not scary, I don't look like a redneck, I communicate culturally and quietly, I always say thank you), then they look at you with round eyes and 99% of the answer is no, no, no. There are no cups, no spoons (by the way, there was nothing in the room except two glasses). The goods are in the refrigerator - look for "Olya". A dryer - look for an Ira, a tool - we don't have one, we don't even know where to ask. The toilet is leaking - well, yes, you have rags in your room. Not once for 12 days of stay, no one came up to us and did not even ask if everything was okay, why we went to dry things on the beach and whether someone had died from rotovirus.
I apologize for the scarcity of words, but draw your own conclusions, oh, I don't set foot anymore.

So friends, now we will tell you an instructive story about this "paradise place"! So, the artists' Cottage, which is located in Staraya Gagra in the mountains, looks really very impressive. It belongs to a well–known person in Abkhazia, a well-known figure and honored artist in Abkhazia in the past - Gennady Shotovich Bartsits. At one time he was a decent man, but unfortunately times are taking their toll.....
Google more carefully and you will see that:
1. He does not return the prepayment for the rest, or returns it, but with deduction of "his commissions". This happened in our case, we transferred an advance payment of 5,000 rubles to him, but it turned out that on the dates that we chose, the numbers we needed were not available. As a result, Bartsitz returned our advance payment to us for half a day and by the evening returned only 4850 rubles out of 5000 rubles. Until we called him ourselves and made a claim, as it turned out, he correctly dumped everything that it was all the tricks of our Sberbank. Like 150 rubles was taken by Sberbank for the transfer back! But we transferred it to him without commission?!))). And Sberbank later confirmed this by phone that it does not charge a commission when transferring back to Moscow🤫
2. His assistant Irina, a very boorish lady. All normal communication stops after you have transferred funds to them. According to her, she is just an administrator, and that all decisions with a refund (to whom how much to return) are decided personally by Bartsits (it all depends on the size of the listed advance). And in general, she often has no time: she is driving and we distract her, then her hands are dirty and she cannot calculate the exact amount for housing.... absurd🤔
3. In fact, if you Google the reviews, there are few people who are satisfied with living with them: people complain about bedbugs and dampness in the rooms, Soviet collapsed furniture, a boiled kitchen that they impose on residents, the smell of sewage in the room, a shared bathroom and other inconveniences.... Thus, the hut requires a strong overhaul.
4. About the elevator that lifts there and has almost collapsed – a separate song, someday God forbid it will collapse. He also works strictly on schedule and has a lunch break.
5. Don't believe all the reviews on booking! As it turned out later, this is an agreement between the Abkhazians, they write reviews to each other there that they allegedly rested. But unfortunately, this is not only for them, but also for many.
6. Those positive reviews that are available on other sites are reviews of Ala women over 45-50 who came together with the same age friend and "just fell in love" with this "heavenly place", because they had never been anywhere before their age, and comrade Bartsits simply charmed them as a polite artist and just a creative person🤣
Bottom line: we absolutely do not feel sorry for these 150 rubles., it feels like we bought an entrance ticket for an excursion to his cottage, but did not get into view of some circumstances🙌😂

We came to this wonderful place for the first time in 2015. And - hooray! there is an opportunity to come again. Vacation from September 26, 2021 to October 06, 2021. The advantages are the incredible beauty of the views, nature, walking distance to the sights - the Colonnade, the Prince of Oldenburg Castle, the Abbaat Fortress, the Seaside Park. A very budget vacation with three meals a day. The food is delicious and varied! At home. We took a family room with a separate entrance. It is a living room with a sofa and a TV, and two rooms. The room has air conditioning and a refrigerator. The air conditioner works for both cooling and heating. Because the weather this year is sad, we turned on the air conditioner at night. We slept in the morning, otherwise it gets hot. There is no kettle in the room, but there is a titanium with hot water in the dining room. But, to be honest, we never needed a kettle). The cottage itself is located on a mountain, picturesque steps (200 meters) lead to the mure, with places to relax in the form of terraces and gazebos. For those who have a hard time, there is a funicular, it works from 9-00 to 21-00. One of the disadvantages is that although the room is a family room, there are two separate beds in each room. I.e. there is no double bed, we had to move them. And I would like to update the wallpaper, they are very "scoop". They don't pull at all for the title of " family ".Rather, it is "very economical". But, to be honest, it's a sin to complain for such money! Very interesting, pleasant and intelligent people - Gennady Shotovich and his wife. Gennady Shotovich is an honored artist of Abkhazia and in the Cottage you can see an exhibition-gallery of his paintings for a very nominal fee of 50 rubles. In general, we enjoyed our vacation! When the sun came out, we went swimming, the water in the sea was warm, it was 23 degrees, it was 17-20 outside. The fisherman husband asked for a fishing rod from the owner and went fishing on the pier in the morning. And he caught it! Horse mackerel, lifera (a terribly toothy fish). In the review, somehow everything turned out in a bunch ((. I'm sorry! But I recommend a place for a relaxing holiday!

We rested from September 3 to September 12, 2021. A great place for a relaxing holiday. We lived in the comfort room. There was hot and cold water all the time. Refrigerator, air conditioning, TV are in the room. The food is homemade. Everything is fresh and delicious. The equipped territory. Lots of colors. Friendly, calm staff. Daily room cleaning. You can get to the sea either by walking along a cozy path or by a ski lift. There are umbrellas, sun beds, and a cafe on the beach. This is not the first time we have come here. Satisfied. We recommend it to everyone who comes for a vacation, not for "stars" and adventures.

But the cottage on the side of the railway is locked with a numbered lock, the phone indicated on the sign was not answered. Alas, the tour did not work out. We read reviews about the cottage, looked at photos, alas, there is no Caucasian hospitality. The desire to relax too.

About the "hotel", this is really a cottage, not a cottage, a cottage - I emphasize, from the 80s-90s. In addition to the good view, which is referenced everywhere here and there, you will not receive any service, you will live in a cheap 1* hostel. The waitress will be an old lady Olga, at first it will seem that she is good / interesting, in fact, this is very much not the case. Special service)) I think they just don't know the word service yet. You will have breakfast at the same table, which will be indicated to you. etc.

We booked a mezzanine room a MONTH before the expected arrival date. We called, agreed for 7 days, made an advance payment of 5000 rubles on the same day. We ordered a transfer right away so that there would be no difficulties getting there. The receptionist Irina said that everything was fine, the reservation was made, the transfer was reminded a day before arrival and everything would be fine. We bought plane tickets, planned everything and continued to live our lives in anticipation of a wonderful holiday.
Three days before the departure date, just in case, I called back to find out if everything was in force, for which we received a bunch of apologies, saying that this was the first time it happened, your room had already been booked, we messed up and everything like that. When asked how it happened, we booked a month ago, asked a thousand times and clarified - we spread our hands. As a result, the rest is disrupted, normal housing is naturally not found at the height of the holiday season, tickets will probably have to be returned.
The only positive thing is probably that the advance payment was returned in full immediately. One star for that.
We do not recommend this place to anyone, because you can be in our place, having carefully planned everything.

We booked 2 rooms through the booking office, they do not have payment through the booking, they ask to transfer money to the card, the assistant Irina, who is the administrator there, when you start asking her questions about this place, she lies beautifully, of course, but to questions that she does not want to answer, she says that go still driving Something has happened there, the main thing is that you have to transfer the money!!!! Put Gennady Ashotovich on the map!!! Now I will tell you about the main thing, we came to this place, complete inconsistency with the stories, what is on the Internet and reality!!!
A hostel with tiny, savdepov rooms, bedbugs, one shower for the entire floor, in general, rooms for some workers, definitely not for vacationers who came on vacation!!! There is no Wi-Fi!!!!! There is no private beach, it is public, it is far from the sea!!! The receptionist Irina was friendly only until we said that we would spend one night, for the money we paid (although we paid twice as much even for this stay for a day) and then she immediately changed her face and her friendliness disappeared, we received an answer from her, or you stay and pay the entire amount, or get out, we do not
refund the prepayment!!!!!!! We are outraged, because we did not cancel the reservation, we just did not like it and not for our reason, and we were ready to stay the night!!!! For the amount of the prepayment, then Gennady Ashotovich came out to us, the owner of this beautiful place in quotes, began to say that he would not return anything to us and would not settle us, that we were not the first such smart guys who did not like us, we were simply kicked out for our own money!!!! People are not decent, they specifically write that the prepayment is not refunded in 2 weeks, because the expectation of this place does not correspond at all to what it really is and just earn money!!!!!!! Do not transfer money to the card, do not listen to Irina's stories (everything is fine until you transfer the money), everything else starts later!! There are a lot of good places in Abkhazia for the same money!!!! Than this hostel where they work ***!!!!!!

Comfortably. Gorgeous sea view from the top. The kitchen is ordinary, delicious. There is tea and stuff.
There is a boarding house for a long stay with three meals a day and there is a daily hostel. Neat and clean. No frills, very modest, but at the same time it does not come out expensive. I recommend.

The cottage of the artists is located on the mountain and offers a great view of the old Gagra and the sea.while climbing the steps to the cottage, on your way you meet a lot of lizards and a couple of turtles in a mini pond, and what vegetation there is!
