The central cathedral of the city, a solemn place for festive divine services. The only drawback is unheated. It's cold during long services.
But the gorgeous views are all around!
In the shop of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, there are real handwritten icons for sale, which are painted in the traditions of the 12th-15th centuries. and they can be purchased at a relatively low price, relative to other temples and cities. Each icon is decorated in a kiosk.
This miracle was erected on the site of the cathedral blown up by the Communists. The Vilna Baroque, so characteristic of the Belarusian lands. With the advent of this cathedral, Vitebsk gained a dominant position, which it undoubtedly needed.
An interesting place and a temple with a touching fate. A story that is similar to the path of our country. Everything is intertwined, rate: "Orthodox Church“ on "Komissar Krylov St."
The pearl of Vitebsk. The majestic cathedral building on the high bank at the confluence of the Vitba River with the Western Dvina is an impressive sight!
Yes, a new model... But when a person is faced with a choice - to contemplate the wasteland where the original cathedral once stood, blown up by the Bolsheviks, or to admire the modern cathedral, which has become the dominant of the city, I am for the latter option.
We were in the 13th year. We settled in the Dvina hotel with a view of the Cathedral. The view is amazing. I took a bunch of photos at dawn. The cathedral was built as a Uniate one, modeled on some kind of cathedral in Rome. It wasn't painted inside yet, it was just white. But there was wonderful singing. From the platform at the cathedral there is a great view of the Kirovsky Bridge and gost. Dvina. Decoration of Vitebsk!
