Plus or Minus Barcelo Cairo and the Pyramids! April 2024.
Being a client of Barcelo, there was no doubt about choosing a hotel for the Pyramids of Giza. At all. Hoping for a Respected Hotel Brand and our travel experience, we hoped to combine comfort and an exciting trip with a child to the Pyramids.
The pre-confirmed booking of the Junior Suite Deluxe room, the confirmed transfer and the private tour of the pyramids gave us confidence in a good result of the trip.
But not everything turned out to be so perfect. The Egyptian factor.
The Transfer Is Perfect! When everything is good, there seems to be nothing to write about! But for the sake of fairness, it is worth noting that with the transfer, arrival and departure, everything was at the highest level! This is a separate service of the hotel, it is not dumping, but it is absolutely worth the money. Similarly with a personal – individual tour of the pyramids! These three hours were a great time spent in Cairo.
The Placement Is Terrible! We read about the "tricky" Egyptian service, when they put you first in the most terrible room, then baksheesh, the efforts of the management and it will be a little better. Understanding this! We have pre-booked and received confirmation of the Junior Suite Deluxe. But we were taken to a dirty, old room with a window in the wall, but with a discount on late check-out. We asked to change the room, and we were settled in another, better one, but also not our Junior Suite Deluxe at all. Tired from the road, with a child, we didn't want anything more, just to relax. For the sake of Truth and justice, much later we were politely offered our reserved room, but we refused, our suitcases were opened, and we had to pack our things again. There was a terrible disappointment with such a service.
The location is very good. During our visit, repairs were underway on the main street and we were driven through the inner blocks. Cairo and Giza, such as they are! The hotel is an island of safety and comfort in a modern metropolis with its own characteristics. The upper terrace of the hotel offers excellent views of the surrounding Giza neighborhoods (there is not much to see) and the Pyramids of Giza. There is a strange shopping mall and a good Safari restaurant next to the hotel. The surrounding streets are not the kind that you would want to wander romantically in the evenings.
I liked the breakfast. There was a lungo program in the coffee machine and it was Lungo!
Everything in the room is quite old and battered. The taps, the shower, ran out of hot water at 14:00. Should I say that we were very surprised? No. Perhaps these are the features of boilers. At the same time, in the showers by the pool on the 8th floor, the hot water worked perfectly.
The pool is on the 8th floor, this is the Hotel's specialty. Take a towel, lie under the awning, take a dip in the pleasant clean water and you will again want not to return to your tubby room.
We decided that we would not return to this hotel unless absolutely necessary.
