The university is excellent, I'm already starting my 2nd year and I don't regret at all that I entered here. My second home, even though I'm from Minsk)) The teachers are generally normal. The dean's office at my faculty (PiM) is normal: these are the people who clearly love students)) They have never reproached us for anything, but, on the contrary, they believe in us that we are the best! 4 stars, because there is one minus — 1 building is always closed to the entrance from the street, except for the days of the CE/CT at the university.
I warn all applicants who want or are forced to enroll in this educational institution, especially at the Faculty of Economics, enroll here only as a last resort!
I studied at the Faculty of Engineering and Economics, but when exchanging impressions between students from other faculties, the same problems sounded:
1) Firstly, the training programs at BSTU are very outdated. Many subjects do not correspond to the specialty. When studying the specialties "Marketing", "Management" and "Economics and Management", you are required to study the theoretical foundations of chemistry (there are topics thermodynamics and organic chemistry) and human life safety (similar to occupational safety, radiation, wiring, workshop lighting, various state standards in industrial safety, etc.). Moreover, these subjects were extremely difficult to pass and took up a huge part of the time from the overall learning process. The discipline "Information Technology" is an example of an outdated program. Here, they teach how to work in various computer programs at lectures on slides, provided that a summary is required. The relevance of the programs is out of the question. Okay, Word, Excel and Access (which are studied at school), but some Mathcad? In 2024? It's too much. And this situation is not only with the discipline of "Information Technology". By the way, subjects related to economics and basic subjects for higher education (logic, philosophy, sociology, political science) are taught here at a good level.
2) Students are treated not as clients, but as subordinates. The student pays 4,700 Belarusian rubles a year and receives orders and threats in response. More than once, the whole group of us was forcibly sent to an event, threatening disciplinary action and a conversation with the dean. It doesn't matter that a student has a job, family, friends, everyone has to come to a concert, a parade, a movie. Clean-up days are also organized, where the whole group of us worked as janitors for free. Once, even the group was removed from classes (from four pairs, that is, for 5-6 hours) in order for students to wash the floors from construction dust in the dormitory, where repairs had just been completed. Someone got hurt, someone started having asthma attacks... They sent everyone: paying for tuition and state employees living in a hostel and renting their apartment.
3) In order to receive a dormitory with a 100% probability for the next year, a student must work for the university or for vacancies from the student council for free (monthly salaries: from 500 to 1000 rubles, these are cleaners, packers, janitors). And this is despite the fact that there is no competition for a place in the hostel. Almost everyone lives in a room for 1-2 people with a capacity of up to 4. This is due to the quality of the hostel, many simply choose to rent an apartment. By the way, about the hostel. The repair is far from new. The kitchen is often dirty, which causes cockroaches (but it's not boring to cook pasta :)). The attitude towards students corresponds to the previous description. You need to pay extra for all the electronics. For some, this quality is justified by the price - 40-80 rubles per month. The university is a 5-minute walk away.
4) The manual. The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Economics is a separate topic. A. B. Olferovich. Now I will briefly try to describe his psychological characteristics. Communicating with this person will bring you nothing but annoyance. He treats every student like cattle. Find fault with the handwriting and every irregularity in the free-form statement - please. Scolding a student for "inappropriate" appearance (that is, wearing a T-shirt, shorts and sneakers in the summer, rather than a business suit) is a great idea. Many are genuinely perplexed as to how he got to this position.
The verdict is this: if you like permanent stress, wasting your time on subjects that have nothing to do with the specialty you are studying, as well as a clear hierarchy where your freedoms and rights are regularly oppressed with threats, then BSTU is the university of your dreams. In other cases, I recommend thinking about it and looking for alternative ways to achieve your goals. I hope this review was useful to you. Thanks for attention.
Good afternoon.
My son studied at this institution.
A good educational institution. I would like to express my gratitude to the university administration for the very organized work on settling into dormitories and in general for everything related to this. Everything is set up, organized, and there is a clear schedule of actions on time. If any unforeseen situations arise, they will not give up and help you figure it out. The life of the students is well organized. Communicating with parents from other institutions, I was simply amazed at how many problems and worries BSTU took off my shoulders. Many thanks to the university.
