Synkovichi
In the village of Synkovichi, near Slonim, there is one of the most atypical and interesting temples in Belarus, moreover, it is the oldest defense-type temple in Belarus, of which not so many have been preserved.
The bulky red brick building surrounded by rapeseed fields, standing literally in the middle of nothing, is truly amazing. And as we approach the time-worn medieval walls, the awe of the monumentality of the structure only increases.
The most probable time of its construction can be considered the end of the XV — beginning of the XVI century. Massive walls, towers and rooms above arches with loopholes bring it closer to a small castle. The plan of the temple is a slightly elongated rectangle with a three—nave division, where all the naves have almost the same width.
The architecture of the church contains details of ancient Russian and Gothic architecture.
The first ones include the arcature belt covering the apses and the two eastern round towers at the level of the lower tier. To the second, pointed arches of openings, steep roof, machicolations.
The pediments of the church, which make up most of the end facades, are cut with numerous decorative niches, which remove the impression of the heaviness of the wall.
The format is very unusual. In fact, it is a fortress, and even on land. It feels like an organ is missing. Everything is very impressive inside, but it's fresh from being used to it. If you want to attend the service, it makes sense to be puzzled by warm clothes.
A temple with a rich history; I visited it myself at the time of the raid, but it is better to go there accompanied by a knowledgeable person
Real Belarusian Gothic not far from the highway R-99 Baranovichi-Volkovysk-Grodno. The miraculous image of the Mother of God "Vsetsarina" is located in the temple. Along the way, you can look into the font and the spring.
