This is not the worst or the best railway station I have ever met. For a large city, which is a business center, it could be better. Navigation is very confusing, there are few inscriptions in English. The staff of the railway station, if they speak English, then they speak sooooo broken (a mixture of Sinhalese and English). In the opposite direction, I could barely buy tickets, because, as it turned out, the ticket office numbers differ not only in the presence of a queue near it and the mode of operation, but also in the directions for which tickets are sold (I only realized this from the 5th time, because the employee simply did not accept money, and could not clearly formulate that I have to do it). By the way, if you are from Russia and you need to leave for Vadduva station, then at the time of my stay it was the ticket office with number 14 (suddenly this information will help someone).
A convenient HUB for transit passengers. All employees understand English, help, and prompt. There is a canteen outside, on the station square there are many restaurants at low prices. But for Europeans they are still a bit overpriced)
The old railway station in Colombo with a huge number of people. Take tickets in advance for 1st or 2nd class, but always with seats. If there are no tickets at all, but you need to go urgently, then take the 3rd class. If it is crowded, and this happens very often, then ask for the luggage compartment-there is almost no one there, it is clean, but you will have to sit on the floor.
