David Abashidze was born and raised in Tbilisi in a theatrical family. He often visited the theater with his parents and therefore naturally entered the Rustaveli Theater Institute immediately after the war.
Since 1949, Dodo has already shone on the stage. Since 1953, he began to appear in films. His character, image, and manner were so in demand that Dodo simply did not have time to appear in the theater and concentrated on feature films.
Abashidze became one of the most memorable actors of the 60s and 80s. It seemed that he was in time everywhere and was filming everywhere, filling the entire space with his statuesque figure. He could be seen in both historical dramas and comedies.
In the 80s, Dodo became friends with Parajanov and participated in the filming of his films not only as an actor, but also as a second director.
And although Dodo lived for only 65 years, it is already impossible to imagine Georgian cinema without him.
