A beautiful nature reserve, a quiet secluded place, very close to the Dead Sea. Here you can rent a house or a hotel room and live like in paradise, among the singing of birds, wild wine trees. In order to feel it, you need to stop at least for a day.
Ein Gedi is an ancient biblical city and a place of battles. It is located in the Judean Desert, on Tel Goren hill, in the immediate vicinity of the David Creek gorge. In 1953, a kibbutz was founded here, named after the gorge, and extensive archaeological work is currently underway here.It is mentioned in the Bible as a city in the Judean desert.
At that time, the city of Ein Gedi was famous for the grapes, figs, dates and wine grown here. But the main glory and a very significant income to the city were brought by valuable incense and the famous far beyond these places balsam tree balm "afarsemon" or "opobalzamon", the secret of which was owned by local residents.
Tel Goren Hill, on which Ein Gedi is located, is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Judean Desert. The ruins of the unique Ein Gedi water supply system, which is still admired by experts, and the remains of a synagogue from the Roman-Byzantine period, in which mosaic fragments were found, have been preserved here. There is an inscription in Aramaic on the beautifully preserved mosaic floor of the synagogue. It talks about the punishment of the Almighty, which will befall the one who divulges the "secrets of the city."Scientists believe that these "secrets" could be the secret of making the famous balm.
On the territory of the kibbutz there is a plant for the production of mineral water, as well as the factory "Ahava", which produces world-famous cosmetics based on Dead Sea minerals.
