It became interesting to see what all its symbols mean on the Abkhazian flag.
The sketch of the modern Abkhazian flag was designed by the Abkhazian artist Valery Gamgia. At the same time, he reflected in the image of the flag the symbol of the Abkhazian statehood, known since the time of the Abkhazian kingdom of the VIII - X centuries. This is an open white palm on a red background, the image of which fluttered over Sebastopolis - the predecessor of modern Sukhum - 12 centuries ago. The green and white stripes on the flag of Abkhazia, according to the author's idea, refer to the flag of the Mountainous Republic that existed in 1918, which included Abkhazia.
According to the official version, the alternation of green and white stripes on the flag of the Mountain Republic is a symbol of religious tolerance of the Caucasian peoples, where Islam (green) peacefully coexisted with Christianity (white). Abkhazia, as an ancient Christian country, was represented on the flag of the Mountainous Republic by a white stripe.
Seven five—pointed stars above the palm are the seven main districts of historical Abkhazia: Sadzen (Dzhigetiya), Bzyp, Gumaa, Abjiuaa, Samurzakan, Dal-Tsabal, Pshu-Aibga.

The flag is hanging in the center of Pitsunda, since you are here, it is worth visiting the temple, which is located behind the wall four meters from the flag ✌
