The fortress of Yedikule is still partially under restoration. However, it is already possible to enter 3 towers. One of them has a climb to the top. There are wonderful views of the sea and Istanbul from there. The entrance to the fortress on April 5, 2025 costs 250 Turkish lira. Payment at the entrance. Instead of a ticket, they give you a fortress card. It is difficult to photograph the Golden gate itself. There are restoration stands on the inside, and on the outside, at the level of the middle of the gate, a huge piece of either foam or foam, painted in a dark color, was hung on cables. It is not clear for what purpose this was done. But definitely, it was worth going to the fortress.
I was only interested in the Golden Gate itself, the main gate of Constantinople. Therefore, the review is only about them. There is a gate. They're great. Tricuspid. Two of the three openings are sealed. Everywhere you can approach, touch, climb in places. There is an exit to the very top of the gatehouse towers and the gate itself - excellent views of the Marmara Sea. You can determine the place where the quadriga stood, pulled by four elephants. Cool it! If you arrive by 9 a.m., there is a chance that there will be no other visitors in the fortress. It is worth paying attention to the piece of road inside the fortress directly near the gate - it is also a Roman road. Perhaps it was on these stones that Emperor Constantine the Great walked and the legions marched in triumph.
But there is no shield of Prophetic Oleg on the gate. It must have been torn off and sold.
Tickets are sold at the entrance to the fortress. On April 7, 2025, we were charged 300 lire per ticket. No fiscal documents were issued, just a blueprint of the fortress.
just one thought, that prophetic Oleg nailed his shield here, attracted me to this place with unimaginable force ... the place is being restored, so everything is still not in the best shape, but you can touch everything, climb and immerse yourself in the life of that time.
Great views, good viewing platform. There weren't many people in March. As always, the price is too high. There's nothing really to see, but it's the same almost everywhere in Istanbul.
It must be a great place.
But there's some kind of protracted repairs!
It was not possible to get into the museum itself
The fortress is beautiful, monumental, and worth a look.
It was wonderful to see the fortress of Constantinople, climb it and walk inside the fortress.Here prophetic Oleg nailed a shield to the golden gate.Here we also met with the mayor of this district.
The Golden Gate of Constantinople is a place that every Russian should visit! The ancient walls, which are more than 1,500 years old, it was here that Prophetic Oleg nailed his shield on the gate! As a sign that this city is under our protection!
A historical place . beautiful. The view from above is gorgeous. just thinking about how many centuries this place has been worth gives me goosebumps))
A great place for tourists. An impressive staircase for climbing to the observation deck, which offers a magnificent view of the city! I recommend it for a visit!!!
A very interesting object with an ancient history, you can climb to the top, the view of the city and the sea is amazing, according to legend, Oleg nailed his shield on them.
A historical place. It 's a cool view . It's a pretty powerful structure. According to history, it was here that the defense of Constantinople was broken through .
We didn't hit it! Where the road led, along which they stomped for an hour, led to a paid entrance for 150 liras, where there was a construction site. The main exhibits were in construction banners. We decided that it was not worth it for so much. Moreover, the road is more than colorful.
An interesting sight of Istanbul is that it was once the front gate of Constantinople. You can get to the gate via the black branch of the metro and go through the Yedikule fortress, which is also interesting to see. Tourists from Russia often seek to see the Golden Gate, as they remember Oleg, who allegedly nailed his shield to the gates of Constantinople, but this is written only in the Tale of Bygone Years and is not confirmed by other sources.
Here the Prophetic Oleg nailed his shield to the Golden Gate of Constantinople! And above the gate there is an inscription in gold plates: The White Prince will come....and the gates will open themselves...This is the Golden Gate of Constantinople, through which Emperor Constantine triumphantly entered after defeating Roman Emperor Maximus! This is the true Constantinople, not Istanbul!
Golden Gate before 1453. Three gates made of oak. They are lined with copper sheets covered with gilding. Scenes from the Gospel are selected on copper plates by the method of coinage. There are arches with bars above the gate. On top of the gate there is a compositional statue: A Quadriga with a chariot. The Byzantine emperor is in the chariot. The chariot is pulled by four elephants. The statue is made of copper. It is covered with gold by the method of fire gilding. There are two watchtowers on the sides of the gate.
An important historical part of the city. Unfortunately, the authorities sealed the gate with concrete, and the Yedikule Museum is closed. But outwardly the gate looks very cool, the fortress wall (Edikule Museum)massive and in perfect condition, great appearance.
ps. next to the police station with a huge number of cats, and just south of the dog kennel.
Kazlicheshme metro stop, you can climb one of the towers and see the expanses of the Bosphorus, in principle, within walking distance of 15 minutes- the Basilica cistern and everything else
This is luck, only emotions, Prophetic Oleg!
Now remember my word:
Glory to the warrior is a joy;
Your name is glorified by victory;
Your shield is on the gates of Tsargrad;
Both the waves and the land are submissive to you;
The enemy is jealous of such a wonderful fate.
