A unique, damn old fortress, dating back to the Roman Empire. There is always a parking place around, an adequate cost of visiting, everything is conveniently organized inside. A separate feature is the abundance of various fruit trees on the territory. Of course, it is better not to visit in the heat.
The fortress is small, but I unexpectedly liked it here. It is quiet here and you can safely walk around the territory, imagining how many centuries ago people lived and protected their fellow tribesmen. Rose bushes grow along the perimeter, and in the center there is a passage covered with a vineyard.
Gonio Fortress is an interesting historical place. There are archaeological excavations and a museum on site. The well-groomed territory with beautiful flowers creates a pleasant atmosphere. Inside the fortress, you can see various antiques in a mini-museum. There is also a small chapel, ruins and other interesting sites to explore.
The place is a must-visit if you are in Batumi. Amazing preservation, clean, beautiful. Literally, you can touch eternity. It is better to get there by Taxi, then you can squeeze to Gonio beach.
The fortress is an amazing place! It is perfectly preserved, it is one of the most ancient and largest fortresses in Georgia. Time it for about an hour or even more to admire every corner and detail. Entry is allowed even with medium dogs, which is also a big plus. I highly recommend you to visit! Entrance fee is 10 GEL
A historically awesome place. There is a large square, an alley, a chapel, and archaeological excavations on the territory. There are good locations for photos and selfies. There is information about the history on the plates.
The fortress is interesting from a historical point of view. There are a lot of restrictions. There are barriers on the wall, you can't get to photogenic places. On the site of the excavation. It looks like they're not digging anymore. A stylized Roman camp, heavily stylized. There are not many historical artifacts in the museum. The coins were generally taken away "for restoration."
There is a fountain with water, a toilet. 10 GEL is too much.
A cool place with a history, the fortress was built by the Romans, I highly recommend you to visit. The price of the entrance ticket is purely symbolic, to get from the center of Batumi 10-12 GEL by taxi.
A time machine and attention! - She's working! A great opportunity to travel back a couple of millennia and see the fortress through the eyes of a Roman, if you have imagination and a proper level of imagination, of course) come with children, walk between well-preserved buildings, fortress walls, relax in the shade of towers and preserved trees. A small museum, decorations of the Roman legionary camp, a real chariot, catapult, ballista, shields and spears included. A great place for family time.
An amazing and peaceful place, permeated with the history and antiquity of ancient Rome and the Colchian kingdom. It's like time has stopped here…
I recommend you to visit, but if you go from Batumi by bus. This is very problematic for transport in the season - minibuses and buses in this direction are completely clogged.
We visited the fortress in March 2024. We liked it. History. Excavations. Atmosphere. Photography is allowed for free. We took a few photos in a flamenco costume and even danced on the track. I made myself a birthday present. 💃🏻I thank the staff for the warm welcome. (There is a toilet at the exit. There are benches to sit and relax) Be sure to come and see the historical fortress!
An interesting place for lovers of history and excavations! We walked around and climbed the fortress up and down, read all the signs and took a photo and installation exhibits. We liked it!
The fortress consists only of strong walls and a huge territory. Excavations are constantly underway. And they find something. They spend holidays. I would like to see a full-fledged historical exhibition on the territory and see more ancient objects, listen to ancient stories, legends, toasts.
The territory is well maintained. Entrance is paid. There may be changes in operation at the gate that do not correspond to the specified time on the site (this may be an isolated case). Entrance is paid, you can take a guide. There is a well-renovated toilet on site. There are places where you can climb to the top, but there are limiters, you got up - great and go down right away. Therefore, look at everything from the bottom first.
She didn't cause any strong emotions. You can take a look along the way, but no more. Landscaped grounds, paths, roses, a couple of excavation sites and most likely it is there that the real old fortress is..
If you will be in Batumi, be sure to visit the Gonio fortress. But do not spare 25 GEL in order to hire a guide. It's much more interesting with a guide
Gonio Fortress was built in the 1st century AD. It can be said that it has been standing since the time of Jesus Christ. It has a square shape and is well restored. We visited it in 2018 and 2023 and noted that there were more flowers, exhibits, cleaner and more well-groomed territory. The entrance costs 5 lari ~ 200r. There are few people inside, there is a fountain with drinking water and a large Parking lot nearby. Since ancient times, fortresses were built with towers so that they could hide from the enemy. In the Bible, a strong tower is compared to God, as he is the most reliable protection for people. "The name of Jehovah is a strong tower. The righteous man flees into it and finds protection" (Proverbs 18:10). Literal structures are destroyed over time, and God, his support and protection are eternal. It is good that the Gonio fortress is being preserved and restored for future descendants, I recommend visiting it and taking a quiet walk along the ancient walls.
I really liked it, it's not a big area, but it's a story!!! Everything is soaked in the meantime, the walls of the stairs are observation. Very atmospheric!
Admission in August 2023 is 8lari for adults. The toilet is wonderful on site. Required to visit)) A beautiful central alley, at the far end of the fortress is a reconstruction of wooden medieval weapons. Several excavation sites and the restored perimeter of the fortress. In general, it is not a mandatory place to visit. But this is my strictly personal opinion.
Das ist fantastisch:
"Gonio Fortress was built in the 1st century
A.D. It can be said that it has been standing since the time of Jesus Christ"!
Briefly about the main thing for those who know about the Podstava Pub in the glorious city of Vladimir:
"Across the street from the entrance to the fortress there is a small street cafe with inexpensive cold delicious beer"!
Oh, this touch on the history of the 7-8 century BC will not leave connoisseurs indifferent. Excavations are continuing in the open air, and weapons and household items are presented in the mini-museum. I was lucky, there was a wedding ceremony here during my visit.
Entrance is paid, I don't remember 10 or 15 GEL. There's not much to see. But if you don't want to go from Batumi. Then you can go to Gonio Beach. Moreover, a taxi from Batumi is a penny. We were taken by taxi BMW X5 for 200 rubles))
Everything is good, beautiful and well maintained. But not a big one, for those who do not like to walk for a long time, this is a great option. Catapults, plumbing, alleys, excavations and perimeter towers... that's all in principle
A very beautiful, albeit small, fortress. A small exhibition of archaeological finds inside. The walls can be climbed in many places. Anyway, passage is allowed almost everywhere.
Adults 8 lari, children 3 lari.
Across the street from the entrance to the fortress is a small outdoor cafe with inexpensive cold delicious beer.
It's a beautiful place, it's a pity we drove by with an excursion (next time we will definitely go there.

Cleaned and restored. Now festivals and events are sometimes held there. Definitely worth a visit. You can get from Batumi by bus or minibus 16, but they are quite crowded. A taxi will cost about 10 GEL. Nearby is the sparsely populated Gonio beach.
There was no change from a small bill towards the end of the day. We didn't get inside, but judging by what we saw from the ticket offices, there's not much to see inside
A small but beautiful fortress. The roses are planted awesome. There are many southern fruit trees. But an hour is enough for an eye examination.
There is a gorgeous empty beach right in front of the fortress. And not far away, closer to the Turkish border, there is a cool waterfall. St. Andrew the First-Called, in my opinion.
A wonderful place that carries the historical heritage of the Roman Empire. It really feels like people of the first century AD lived in this place. You can see a little bit of their lives and feel their history
I definitely recommend going to just a unique structure, especially the ancient Roman excavation of underfloor heating was etched into my memory. For me, it was just a discovery, and the perfect preservation of the entire infrastructure that supported the life of the Roman legionnaires is a very interesting story and many interesting educational exhibits
The fortress is perfectly preserved, although it is about 2 thousand years old according to the official history. It occupies a large area where you can walk, climb towers, walk along ancient stairs.

The fortress is located at a distance from the city, a fairly quiet place. The fortress is large, you can climb the towers, you can not walk along the walls. Lots of lizards. Affectionate dogs that live on the territory of the complex. There is a small museum in the middle of the fortress - we were lucky enough to get into it, it was a pity there was no light that day. A wonderful toilet! Overall, the feeling is pleasant.
