The Tbilisi Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, abbreviated Sameba, is the main Orthodox Christian Cathedral in Georgia. Located in Tbilisi, on the mountain Eliya (Avlabari district). It was built in 1995-2004 by architect Archil Mindiashvili. It is the largest cathedral in Georgia.
We really liked this cathedral. It has a large and well-maintained territory. But despite this, it is always quiet and peaceful here. Since the cathedral was not far from our hotel (it can be seen from the terrace), we came several times just to sit on a bench without going inside and enjoy the atmosphere.
On the territory of the cathedral there is a pond with geese, as well as aviaries with chickens and many beautiful flowers.
The largest and, formally, the most important cathedral of Georgia and the entire Georgian Orthodox Church. The samoeba is visible from many parts of the city and from all viewing platforms. The temple is majestic and very beautiful. The area around the temple includes many sculptures and chapels, as well as a small park with a cozy cafe. In the temple you can see several ancient icons, as well as one modern, but very rich one.
The Orthodox Trinity Cathedral is of stunning beauty and grandeur. I highly recommend you to visit. The territory at the temple is also impressive. Tsminda Sameba (Holy Trinity Cathedral) is the main temple of the Georgian Orthodox Church and the tallest church in Georgia and Tbilisi, the second cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church after Svetitskhoveli. It is located in Tbilisi, on the hill of St. Elijah (the left bank of the Kura), on the site of the monastery of Khodji-Vank of the XVII century. There are 10 thrones in the cathedral. The lower church is dedicated to the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There is a belfry and three temples: one in honor of the prophet Elijah, the second in honor of the Holy Spirit (it houses a cruciform baptismal pool) and the third in honor of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God above the gates of the monastery. It hosts services for the deaf and dumb. The total height of the cathedral with an underground floor is more than 100 meters. The height of the cathedral from the ground to the foot of the cross is 77 m. The height of the cross itself is 7.5 m. The Cathedral ranks third in the world among Orthodox churches in height. Inside, the temple resembles a museum: the walls are decorated with frescoes and paintings by various artists; the floors are lined with marble and decorated with mosaics. Several very valuable relics are kept in the temple.
