A wonderful miniature museum - very cute, "lamp-like" and "doll-like". There is a cash register and a souvenir shop in a separate house nearby. It is better to go around the museum with a guided tour, which will be conducted even for 2 people. Unfortunately, there is not a single authentic work of Chagall in the museum-only copies.
A small homely museum gives an idea of the Vitebsk period of M. Chagall's life (who, it turns out, was named Moses) and tells a little about the artist's entire life path. I highly recommend contacting the museum in advance to book a tour, without which you will see the exhibits of the museum in 10 minutes. But with a guide, you will really like the museum!
This is certainly not the Chagall Museum in Nice, but it will be there some other time. But in Vitebsk there is a very wonderful house museum. It is very informative, cozy, the guides are wonderful, the territory is well maintained. Well done for preserving the memory of their famous countryman so well.
The small house is a museum where the famous artist lived. It is best to explore the museum accompanied by a guide, because the exposition is small, and a lot remains not covered.
The house of the artist's parents has been restored. With interiors close to his time, a guided tour of the house museum is interesting and inexpensive. In the courtyard there are piles of paving stones of that time and a monument to Chagall. Parking across the street, a small souvenir shop.
A small, cozy and very touching museum. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in the personality of the artist and has a desire to plunge into the atmosphere of his youth. Thanks to the keepers!
A beautiful small house-museum of an unusual artist. It gives a picture of the life and everyday life of a family in old Vitebsk. Household utensils, furniture and dishes of that time are very much loved by me and resemble my grandmother's apartment with treasured antiques. Numerous photographs tell about the artist himself and about his family and friends. A very nice and cozy nest!!!)))) it becomes clear why the characters of Marc Chagall's paintings so often seem to fly out of the nest, rush up and soar over the city.))))
The museum is quite modest, much more interesting with a guide. The exposition is small, there are not many exhibits, so it's better to provide comments, at least with an audio tour.
A small house museum carries its life through the centuries, passing on a piece of the history of human existence. Nearby there is a ticket office and a souvenir shop where you can buy commemorative postcards, magnets and many other interesting things from the capital and Vitebsk. The price tag for souvenirs is not high here. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in the story. The guides are wonderful, they tell interesting stories and I want to listen to them.
I really liked the house where Chagall lived. An interesting and beautiful story about his life, a good guide, a lot of things impressed! I am pleased and definitely advise you to visit the house museum in Vitebsk
A small museum that could have been just another museum, if not for the magnificent guide Elena Stepanovna. Thank you so much for the most interesting tour, for caring for museum visitors!!! Advice to those who are planning a visit - be sure to take a guided tour!!!
It's a very atmospheric place. A small house, a great impression of the filling. Mostly photos. I was especially amused by Chagall's school presentation :)) Anyone who has seen it will understand :)
I highly recommend you to visit :)
The museum is small. There are many exhibits, but without a guide, you can walk around the house in ten minutes and not understand anything. As usual in museum houses, a lot depends on the tour. The guide has fulfilled her duties perfectly. I recommend you to visit. You need to take care of the tour in advance.
Unfortunately, the exposition is not large, but this is an old house and it should not be large in itself)There is a pleasant courtyard and a small garden in the courtyard. As a symbol of the city, it is a must-visit.But the Chagall Art Museum, I personally liked it more.
The museum is a chamber museum, very small. Literally for 2-3 rooms. The exposition of one of the rooms is a photo of different stages of the artist's life. But the organization of the visit has not been thought out at all. 2-3 tourist buses are packed at the same time. The caretakers are pushing so that the crowds don't turn into a stampede. There is a monument to the artist in the courtyard
In this place you can see two small houses that were created in order to convey the atmosphere of the early 20th century.
The guide tells a fascinating story. However, if you do not feel reverence towards the creator (as was the case in my case), then you probably will not get much pleasure from visiting.
A journey into the world of Marc Chagall: Opening the doors to the past 🎨
Location: Vitebsk, Pokrovskaya street, 11
General impressions:
Visiting Vitebsk and not looking at a place associated with Marc Chagall is a kind of tourist crime. This world-famous artist and his biography deserve special attention.
Location and accessibility:
🗺️ Location: The museum is located a little away from the center and the main central attractions, but it is not difficult to get to it. You can take an inexpensive taxi, public transport or take a walk from the city center.
Environment: The museum is located in an authentic place where the historical environment is preserved, so you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the years when Marc Chagall lived.
Exposition and atmosphere:
🏠 House: The museum presents an exposition in Marc Chagall's own brick house. Unfortunately, no authentic things of the artist have been preserved inside. However, thanks to the Marc Chagall Foundation and his relatives, various household items of his family are on display.
🖼️ Exposition: The museum is small and intimate, as the house itself is small. According to the guide, it was a pretty big house for that time. The exposition is interesting to visit and allows you to feel peace.
Disadvantages and problems:
🚫 Maladaptation: The museum is not adapted for people with limited mobility. The wheelchair cannot pass, but it is possible to climb on crutches.
Service: The employee of the ticket office was extremely rude, rudely answered basic questions about the cost of tickets and the content of the exposition. This slightly spoiled the impression of the visit.
Positive points:
👩🏫 Excursion: The caretakers of the museum house itself were very sociable and cheerful. They took us through the exposition, showed us everything and told us, creating the feeling that we were on a real tour. Thank you so much for this!
🌳 Territory: Well-groomed territory, a beautiful garden with benches where you can sit, relax and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of those times when the great creator lived here.
Final assessment and recommendation:
In general, a visit to the Marc Chagall House museum left a pleasant impression, despite some shortcomings.
We recommend:
🎨 For anyone who is interested in the life and work of Marc Chagall.
For those who want to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of historical Vitebsk.
We do not recommend:
🚫 To sedentary people.
People with disabilities due to lack of adaptation.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
We were traveling from St. Petersburg specifically to visit the Chagall Museum, it is clear that there is nothing to do in such museums without an excursion. When we entered, the aunt (it was the aunt, it's hard to call her otherwise) told us in a rather rude form that the guide had a day off today, come tomorrow or look like that, but you won't understand anything, there is no special information, and everything was said in such a tone that they thought at least now they would beat us. The museum administration is kindly requested to pay attention to the unacceptable behavior of some employees
Ps extended the hotel for one day, we hope there will be a guide tomorrow.
A must-visit in Vitebsk. Spare no money for a guide and all the exhibits will "come to life". For people who are not familiar with the life and work of the "master", this is simply a must.
If you are in Vitebsk, be sure to take the time to visit the Marc Chagall House Museum. The exposition is small, but very interesting, and the museum guides are well versed in the material. From their story you will learn a lot about the time that the artist spent in Vitebsk.
Provincial, but quite interesting. You can spend an hour of time with pleasure and informative. The prices are reasonable. You can buy unusual souvenirs and jewelry.
The expectations were that it would be a large museum with numerous works by the author. It turned out to be a small house in which excursions flow like a conveyor. You can visit if you are interested in finding out where and how the artist lived
A very good museum! We were 1.5 years ago and returned in November 2024. Come in and ask for an excursion - it costs a penny. It was just the two of us + three other people. For two people, they paid 18 BEL for entrance tickets and tour service. The tour lasts about 50 minutes, very interesting!
Something that must be visited. For a nice price, besides there are benefits, a nice place with the history of a great man. Everything is well-groomed and with love
Interesting. Informative. But there are few exhibits. The entire interior of the museum is a so-called kitchen with a Russian stove, two rooms and a retail store. But you can sit in the courtyard of the museum, take interesting photos.
A very interesting tour, although the house is small, but with a rich and tragic fate of the inhabitants. The tour is not only interesting, but also useful, makes you think about your life, its goals and meanings
Be sure to take a guided tour, you will not regret it. The museum is not big, but cozy. You will learn a lot from the life of the artist and his family.
As I understand it, this is a problem for all museums in Vitebsk. There are simply no guides. The tour ends with one group, and the guide immediately goes with the other. Trying to break into a weekend excursion is almost impossible. Everything is scheduled. You can only count on an entrance ticket. A group of 24 people came in. The three of them joined her. The rooms are small, more than 10 people will not go crazy. And to divide a group into 2, for example, there are no guides.
Well, the cashier mentioned in the reviews deserves a separate "respect". He raises his voice, moralizes, behaves unworthily and ill-mannered. He's rude to comments. And if you consider that it is with this person that acquaintance with the museum begins, the management should think about it.
It would probably be very interesting to go with a guide, but I was unlucky, he was not there. The museum itself is very modest, it takes literally 15 minutes to walk by yourself. Therefore, I advise you to call in advance and specify the tour guide's working hours.
Oh heavens! Even if it is a completely small house, but it is necessary to visit it for those who appreciate creativity. In the yard and in the house, the atmosphere is as if the world froze and stopped from the hustle and bustle🤗
It's a good museum. Excellent staff. The exposition is not a memorial, but it presents the biography of the master very succinctly. And in the second room, the art space, there is also a good collection of Chagall's works.
The house museum is very nice, well done! Yes, it's small, but that's how the family lived. Yes, everything has been recreated, but this is not so important, the family photo and the guide's story (we only managed to eavesdrop on a large children's group, we did not get our own again) completely immerse us in the atmosphere. We met very polite caretakers. Thanks!
A small but cozy house-museum of the artist Moses (Marc) Chagall. It is unclear how a family of 10+ people lived in such a small area. There are no original works by Chagall in the exhibition, they are also presented in the art center in Vitebsk. I recommend a free audio guide from oh my art in the izi travel app.
It's a great place. You must listen to the guide. Have a lot of fun. The small house is imbued with the energy of the artist and his family. There are genuine items that belonged to the family.
A beautiful and well-maintained house. A very interesting tour with an extremely calm and thoughtful guide (girl).
It is interesting to tell, although by and large there are not so many exhibits and original things
The tour was very interesting and informative. Alas, the house was damaged during the Great Patriotic War. It was restored, and everyday life was recreated. Chagall's personal belongings are not there, but there are many photographs and copies of drawings. So there is something to see. We recommend it!
I liked....Malenko, nice, original. I wouldn't go on purpose, but if you happen to be passing by, it's worth a look.
There is little furniture, apparently belonging to the Chagall family, and on the walls is a story about the family itself, the artist's childhood and youth...
I am not a fan of this artist's work, but I was happy to visit the museum while in Vitebsk. The house is small, it will take a little time. But with the guide's story and reproductions on the walls, life in it at the time of Chagall is quite possible. And in general, the biography and the main moments of the artist's life are covered. Interesting, definitely, worthy of attention.
There were 3 tours in the museum at once, everyone was crowding, it was impossible to squeeze through. There's not much to see inside, just a couple of paintings and that's it. Well, the house museum is a cool little house.
But there are a lot of people there
A small house, a Russian stove, a wooden table, a bench and a candle, and children in the house of a horde. Here it is, really, Fun.) Well done, but Repin's work is closer to me, however, as is the estate in Zdravnevo. To each his own.
Honestly, nothing, for the fans. A tiny house with a minimum of exhibits, which is positioned as the main attraction of the city. Without a guide, at most 5 minutes, with him it can be stretched for 20.
We started visiting Vitebsk from this museum and it was the right decision. The museum is interesting, it allows you to learn about the artist's childhood and youth, better understand his work and life, as well as immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Vitebsk.
There is little to say about this place, the whole museum has two rooms, a lot of family photos and sketches.
The museum was created by enthusiasts in the very house where the artist lived, this is the only thing that is really remarkable, everything else is meager and poor.
The yard is cozy.
If you don't know anything about Gal and his life beforehand, the museum

The house museum is not big. The exhibition contains items from that era, but not belonging to the Chagall family. Family photos, reproductions, illustrations. The advice is to take a guide or read the biography of the artist beforehand. A cozy courtyard.
Minus is the aunt at the checkout). She is not friendly))).
I recommend visiting both the house museum and the M. Chagall Art center. In the art center, you must watch a film-Chagall's own story about himself.
