Very beautiful Kiev, the Hero City, was visited by my wife and I in my youth, during the Soviet Union, on a tourist voucher. The highest degree of distinction - the title of "Hero City" - was awarded to Kiev on May 8, 1965 for showing mass heroism and courage in defending the Motherland in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-945.
