Portugal 🇵🇹 Porto . The cathedral . Lisbon Cathedral (port. Sé de Lisboa) is the cathedral of the Lisbon Patriarchate. It is believed that earlier there was a Roman temple on the site of the modern cathedral, which was turned into a Christian church by the Visigoths in the IV–V centuries. After the Arab conquest of the Iberian Peninsula, the church was destroyed, and a mosque was built in its place. Recent archaeological excavations carried out in the cloister of the cathedral have proved the assumption that a Roman temple was originally located on the site of the cathedral, and subsequently a mosque. Lisbon Cathedral, which the Portuguese call Se, is almost never mentioned in the lists of the most important Gothic buildings in the world, and yet it is older than most recognized Gothic masterpieces. So, it appeared before the world-famous Notre Dame de Paris, the cathedrals in Chartres, Seville and Milan. It is interesting to explore the world with your own eyes. Please put it to me 👍
