On the top of one of the cliffs of the Judean Desert, rising 450 meters above the Dead Sea, in 25 BC, King Herod I the Great, a descendant of the Idumeans who converted to Judaism, built a shelter for himself and his family, significantly strengthening and completing the fortress of the Hasmonean period built in 37-31 BC.

If you are on the Dead Sea, be sure to visit the fortress! We don't have that, it's impressive! The view from above is amazing! An interesting story: in honor of the defenders of the fortress, Israeli intelligence got its name. Architecture is unusual for us!

Very, very, very cool. I can't believe it was done 2,000 years ago. Herod was a great architect.

I was here in good weather, the structure is very impressive. What I particularly liked was that even here drinking fountains were made on the rock. The species are of course Martian)), it may be expensive, but it's definitely worth it

An amazing place!!!!!!!! You can realize this only by climbing to the top of the mountain and examining the remains of buildings and the panorama that opens .... I recommend that everyone who wants to visit this place do it as part of an excursion group led by an experienced guide who will tell in detail the story of the emergence and tragic, ambiguous even for the Jews themselves, the finale of this fortress palace.

I didn't like it, a lot of things are artificial and invented

The place is just awesome. In fact, it's just ruins that are constantly being restored, But..... Damn, it's very cool there. I'm not a big fan of all kinds of museums, but I wandered around the fortress for 6 hours, and if it hadn't been for the scorching sun, I would have wandered more. And the views from there are simply amazing. I highly recommend you to visit. There are toilets, convenient navigation, parking both above and below (which is very convenient when traveling from different parts of the country). Along with the ticket, they give out a brooch containing descriptions of locations and various historical facts. I found drinking points, and even sockets for recharging gadgets (although they are not provided there, they were workers' sockets, extension cords) In general, I was very pleased.

One of the iconic places in Israel. A sacred place for the military glory of this small state. Mountains, wind. ancient ruins and a wonderful view of the sea.

A wonderful sunrise meeting on Masada. We visited the Echo Gorge here (right to the end from the entrance).

The ascent on foot along the snake trail is minus 5 kg. weights. To meet the sunrise here is considered the most impressive sight. It is better to visit this masterpiece in winter.

A great place for those who are interested. Regarding the organization, everything is simple, we talked in Russian at the box office, watched a short movie while waiting for the cable car. I recommend a visit.

A great museum. Building, infrastructure. But the staff, especially at the top, is a rare redneck. In particular, the guy who gives out the headphones. Boorish communication and unwillingness to work. They close everything ahead of the time indicated on the sign. Even the elevators are turned off.
