Very very Old manuscripts from different parts of the globe. If you are interested please go with adequate time in your hands because it is really interesting
An amazing museum-institute. Be sure to have a guide! Without a guide, there will be little information and no interest, since the signatures are all very brief. We came and thank God there was a free guide, but it turns out you can book the tour in advance. We had a girl Diana- amazingly educated and interesting, she told us a lot of everything, she didn't even want to finish the tour, they would have listened and listened. Thank you very much for such an attitude and love for your work.
We visited on the last day of our stay in Yerevan - we advise you to do so, since all the information is then easily perceived, we have already visited many places and seen and heard a lot, and this makes the tour easier and more interesting.
I visited this museum with my wife . Thanks to the free WiFi, it was possible to translate all the information inside, but there is also a competent guide. It was interesting to get acquainted with the history of the Armenian people, with national costumes, their culture, ancient manuscripts, there are even Xll gospels.. The beautiful architecture of the building itself and already at the entrance was impressed by the sculpture of Mesrop Mashtots, the founder of the Armenian alphabet, and next to it an interesting inscription in ancient Armenian, which reminded us of the words from the Bible from the book of proverbs "The wise will listen and multiply knowledge, and the wise will find wise advice" Is a good reminder of how valuable the truth from the Bible is.Apparently Mashtots meant it. It is good that there are people who care about preserving ancient history for future generations. If you are in Yerevan, be sure to visit this museum.
"Matenadaran" - literally means "repository of manuscripts" - is a museum and a scientific center for the study and preservation of ancient manuscripts. Our guide Anahit told us a lot of interesting facts and answered our additional questions, for which we thank her very much! The rooms are divided into themed halls. One of them will introduce you to the maps of ancient Armenia and the travels of the apostles of Jesus. You will see a 1202 book written on calf skin, weighing 28 kg, as well as the very first printed book in Armenian, made in Amsterdam in 1666. In addition, you can see the smallest book of the 15th century, the size of a matchbox. It was also a discovery that the first schools and affordable education appeared in Armenia already in the 4th century. Finally, the museum's halls feature Bibles from different centuries with very elaborate bindings made of metal, leather and ivory. You will see ancient manuscripts of the scriptures in Hebrew, with the real name of God - "Jehovah", which has now been removed from many translations. "Let people know that your name is Jehovah" (Psalm 83:18).
A very interesting museum!) I recommend it to everyone who visits Yerevan. Be sure to take a guided tour. It's short-lived, but you'll learn a lot of new things for yourself. The museum offers a great view of the city)
A great place, very interesting if you take a tour. It is clear that the museum is being looked after and the employees appreciate what they are doing. I recommend you to visit, especially with children! Although I was very interested myself.
The museum is a collection of written cultural monuments. You get into the atmosphere of the museum from the outside, where architectural elements, khachkars and other exhibits brought from different parts are located. Inside there are halls dedicated to the history and culture of the Armenian people, as well as, of course, handwritten and printed publications - books, manuscripts, manuscripts. There is a separate room where publications from different countries and peoples are collected. If you feel the culture and history, then in Matedanaran!
This place is a must-see for all tourists. It is worth taking a guide to get to know the history of the manuscripts and the history of Armenia better. At the end of the tour, they talk about how they used to get colors for fabrics and medicinal plants.
The Museum of Ancient Manuscripts related to Armenian History. In my opinion, it is unique, and we are very pleased that we visited it. We took a guide, 2 hours of communication flew by unnoticed. Through the attitude to books and knowledge, the mentality of the people is revealed.
It's an amazing place. A must-visit in Yerevan. It is better to have a guide, without him you can not pay attention to a lot of valuable books and manuscripts
To all the guests of magnificent Yerevan, I recommend visiting the museum, which houses a unique collection of manuscripts, first-hand printed books and a wonderful history. The decoration of this place is also impressive. I recommend taking a guided tour, you will definitely be impressed by the stories about the value of the exhibits, their peculiarity and why the museum was built in this place. I'm thrilled!
A very interesting museum, especially if you take a guided tour. I had an amazing guide, you should be able to talk so fervently about manuscripts!!! But even without a tour, it is very interesting to look at all kinds of manuscripts in various languages and learn more about the history of Armenia
A mega underrated place. You'd better take a tour! I went without due to lack of time, but it would have been much better with a guided tour. The collection of artifacts is unreal!
The treasury and storehouse of the Armenian people. The Matenadaran contains not only ancient Armenian manuscripts, but also rare written artifacts of ancient peoples. Matenadaran helps to feel the identity of Armenians, which is especially important for us now.
It is a very interesting exposition and it is necessary to watch it with an excursion, it is more interesting and informative this way. Inside there are unusual souvenirs, for example, sacred candles or royal elixir
It is a wonderful museum, both in terms of the subject matter itself, the manuscripts, and the culture of Armenia in a global sense.
Special thanks to the guide Alvina, who helped link the individual exhibits into a single story, so that the effect of the visit was greatly enhanced. Despite the fact that each exhibit has a description in different languages, it may not be so easy to trace the connection between them unaccompanied. The tour took place for more than an hour and is worth it, very lively and exciting.
In my opinion, a must-visit place in Yerevan
The museum is only with a guide. The guides are beyond praise - the level of education is very high.
The collection is extremely interesting to any person, of any nationality and religion.
It's a great place to dive into the ancient world, but don't take a young guide. They just want to get out and run faster . They did not give us a tour in good faith. Take a guide with good recommendations, and everything will be very interesting!
A stunning museum, which contains ancient books in various languages from Hebrew and Arabic to Chinese and Old Slavonic. It was interesting to consider books on anatomy for medieval healers with the medicines presented. It was also interesting to see a medieval romance novel in Arabic.
You have to come here and always with a guide to understand who the Armenians are. Those Armenians who loved and love their homeland, and how prosperous Armenia was when it was ruled by homeland-loving rulers.
An extremely interesting place. I am not strong in the match, I share my common emotions: a huge collection of books that are 500 years old or more. The biggest and the smallest. There is a photo zone with national costumes in the hall where the books of the "pharmacy" herbarium are. Even if you don't know anything about the museums of writing, going there will give you a lot of pleasant emotions. It will be interesting for both adults and children.
The place is amazing! But you need to go without children (at least younger ones).
The museum is a unique place where ancient manuscripts in different languages of the world are stored and studied.
A very interesting museum of the manuscripts of the Armenian people, as well as various countries that presented their manuscripts to them.
You need to book a tour right away, as the guide will explain everything and answer all interesting questions.
I advise everyone)
I liked this museum, probably the richest museum in Yerevan. Marble floors, carpets on the staircase, showcases made of precious woods. Very beautiful. The exhibits are also of great value. There are a lot of beautiful historical specimens. There is even a papyrus! There are manuscripts in many languages, there are Arabic, Turkish, Armenian, Slavic books. The literature is mostly religious, which is not surprising for books of the 14th and 16th centuries. Photos were taken only from the outside, inside photos for a fee
It's just a treasure trove of knowledge and relics!!!be sure to visit, take a guide FOR SURE, he will tell you everything, just if you go through, you will not understand anything much
There are no small crops, there are undervalued ones. And Matenadaran corrects the mistake of underestimating the contribution of the Armenian people to world culture. The rarest and most beautiful exhibits of the greatest material and cultural value. In my opinion, it is from this place that one should begin to get acquainted with Armenia and the traditions of the Armenian people
The largest museum of manuscripts. All the exhibits are a scientific sensation. Very good building, excellent guides! All people need to go there for general development.
A wonderful museum that is worth visiting both outside and inside. If you find yourself in Yerevan, be sure to look there. The museum always has staff who are ready to answer your questions.
The building is very interesting. The staff is polite. The availability of free toilets. You can charge your phone. There are inscriptions in Russian in the museum.
I highly recommend you to visit, but definitely with an excursion. There are a lot of interesting exhibits, but the main exposition consists exclusively of books in Armenian. The manuscripts and books in other languages on display are changing.
Definitely one of the greatest museums on Earth! There are so many unique monuments of writing and not only Armenian! It's just a fascinating sight. Looking at a book that is 1000 years old is an incredible delight.
The repository of knowledge and the place of work of the most enthusiastic people. A must-visit, certainly with an excursion. Let's hope that they will be able to organize their own channel and bring their knowledge "to the masses" :)
Gorgeous guides who willingly tell you in detail in 3 languages. It is clear that they are proud of culture, they want to convey it to the masses. I also took a guide to my daughter separately. Everything was explained in a very accessible children's language. Thanks to the guide with the divine name Nare. So the question of why some got "bad" guides remains open. Thanks to the whole team!
The coolest museum I've ever been to in my life, and I've been to many countries around the world. It is a special pleasure to listen to an excursion from an employee who not only knows the collection perfectly, but also loves her job with all her heart
