Very beautifully and modernly made!I recommend visiting in winter to get a feel for the condition of people who were like this 80 years ago..Special thanks to the director of the memorial and the tour guide, Zinaida Nikolaevna!! When she talks, it's impossible to hold back the tears!! Even the children listen to her without moving, with great attention.
The Ozarichi Memorial Complex
is dedicated to the victims of the German concentration camp complex and was called the Ozarichi Death Camps. It was created in 1944. According to various sources, from 40 to 50 thousand people passed through it, the camp lasted only 10 days, during which time about 20 thousand people died there from cold, hunger and disease.
The camp was created to relocate all disabled and sick residents from the frontline territories in order to relieve themselves of the burden of maintenance and nutrition in the territories occupied by the retreating Wehrmacht army. The able-bodied population participated in the creation of fortifications of the defense lines.
• The diary of the 9th Army described this as a success. "The operation has brought significant relief to the entire battlefield. Residential areas were unloaded and cleared for the deployment of troops. Food will no longer be wasted on useless eaters. By isolating patients, the foci of infections were significantly reduced"
• There is also a version that the German command intended to use typhus as a biological weapon against the advancing Soviet troops, and the Ozarichi concentration camp, where typhus patients were gathered, was created specifically for this purpose.
