My favorite monastery in Cyprus. Small, but very cozy and sincere :)
Somehow, we are always so lucky that when we arrive, we find ourselves here alone. Although I know that there are usually plenty of excursion groups ...
In the monastery there is one of the icons of the Virgin, whose face is covered with a canvas. There are similar icons in Cyprus in the monasteries of Kikkos and Maheras.
There is a small museum at the monastery, the entrance to which is for a nominal fee. And its own winery, the products of which can be bought at the souvenir shop on site. I highly recommend cherry tincture:)
By the way, the museum and the shop are usually closed if there are few visitors. But you can ask and they will open it especially for you :)
There is a small cafe at the entrance. There is usually not much to eat here, but you can drink a cup of Cyprus coffee and enjoy the stunning view of the foothills of Troodos :)
The monastery of the Theotokos Chrysoroyatissa – Our Lady of the Golden Pomegranate of the XII century is located in the wooded part of the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus, 40 km northeast of Paphos. Its history preserves an ancient legend about the miraculous finding of the icon of the Mother of God by a fisherman who found the icon of the Mother of God with a Golden Garnet, painted by the Apostle Luke himself, on the seashore near Paphos. According to legend, the icon was lowered into the water in Asia Minor during the period of iconoclasm and sailed to Cyprus by sea. Visiting the monasteries of Cyprus, you find incredible peace of mind!
