It's a very magnificent structure. I was really sad when I got inside. The treasure hunters have riddled it with holes, people have written their names in their columns. the structure that has been standing for more than 1000 years has been defeated by these unknowns. The frescoes in the preacher's area have been dismantled, but their traces remain. The other structures are ruins. That's a shame. Its history is as follows:
Otkhta Church, also known as Dörtkilise in Turkish, is a Georgian monastery founded by King David Kurapalat Dec. 961-965. It is one of the magnificent cathedrals located in Tao-Klarjeti, next to Oshki, Ishkhani and Khakhuli. The term "Otkhta" means "from the fourth" and is one of the main historical and cultural regions in northeastern Turkey and southwestern Georgia, located around the Chorokhi and Kura river basins and the upper source of the Aras river.
Otkhta church was originally established as a monastery and school and underwent various renovations between 978 and 1001 Dec, including the addition of a porch. The religious complex consists of four buildings: a bell tower, a refectory, a seminar hall and a chapel. Similar to other monasteries in the region, this medieval monastery exhibits the architectural brilliance of the period.
