House No. 80 Shchuseva Street (formerly Leovskaya) was built in 1888 in an eclectic style, with elements of folk art and belonged to merchant Christopher Ivanovich Serbov-Syrb.
Maria Alexandrovna Serbov-Syrb (Bondi) was born in 1873, Polish by nationality. Her husband was Ivan Serbov-Syrb, one of the eight brothers of Christopher Serbov-Syrb. Ivan was a mathematician and a brilliant teacher, he taught at the Chisinau men's Gymnasium No. 1.
Together with two of the four children, they were arrested and convicted with confiscation of property on June 13, 1941 and exiled to the GULAG. Granddaughter Nadezhda, along with daughter-in-law Valentina, the wife of her son Mikhail, managed to escape to Romania and lived there for 18 years in the city of Roshiory de Vede; they returned to Chisinau in 1961.
Maria Alexandrovna died on January 21, 1951 in Kazakhstan, in the village of Beloyarka, Akmola region (Vishnevsky district).
