The Prague chimes are like one of the wonders of the world that must be seen. I have never seen such a watch anywhere. I don't want to get smart and retell the story, which is a lot on the Internet… but it is necessary to express your feelings about what you saw. They are located on the wall of the cathedral, which is located not far from the buildings around the perimeter of the square. Hence another unusual feature - a narrow place for a crowd of onlookers watching a puppet show that takes place every hour with the ringing of a bell announcing the passing of time. There's not much room there. But the clock is visible from the window of the hotel, where we settled specifically to enjoy the view from the window. It is impossible to understand the clock without knowing the meaning conceived by the author. But I did not know and did not figure it out. I just enjoyed the beauty and strangeness. We were at different times of the year (summer, autumn, winter). Prague fascinates with its antiquity and strangeness. We bought a souvenir in the form of chimes. They are still working.

An iconic Prague place that everyone should visit. In addition to the chimes themselves, there is something to see on the square, and there is access to the town hall. The main scourge of Prague is the crowds of tourists, but this is natural in such a beautiful city. MUST SEE.

The first clock on the Old Town Tower was installed around 1402. However, due to improper maintenance or poor construction quality, they broke down and could not be repaired. In 1410, the watchmaker Mikulash from Kadin created the oldest parts of the famous clock - the astronomical part and the internal mechanism. The most accurate mechanism was developed by the scientist Jan Schindel, known for his achievements in the field of astronomy. The sculptural compositions were made by the famous Czech sculptor Peter Parlej. According to historical records, the watchmaker received not only a house and money for his work, but also a lifetime annual allowance.

The most important attraction of Prague from the point of view of most tourists. I recommend visiting on weekdays, because on weekends, crowds of Czechs join the crowds of tourists.

A medieval clock tower mounted on the south wall of the tower of the Old Town Hall on the Old Town Square in Prague. They are the oldest working astronomical clocks in the world. Every hour from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., a performance in the spirit of the Middle Ages takes place on the Prague clock.

Beautiful performances attract crowds of guests. Some figurines are periodically under repair. It's better to make a video. Carefully with things (it is better to keep them in front of you and close the pockets.)

Choose early mornings and weekdays. There are a lot of tourists. Otherwise, it's all one Chinese store... The food is expensive and not tasty. See Prague from the inside in other places. Prague 3,7,6. Find interesting coffee shops and restaurants. Currency exchange... Song. Be careful, watch your hands) always take a check with the amount of how much you were given and within 3 hours, if you realize that you cheated on the course a lot, you can change it back. This is the law.

A clock installed in the Middle Ages on the Town Hall tower on the Old Town Square in Prague. This square itself is perfectly preserved and is the tourist center of Prague. Surrounded by restaurants, crowded with kiosks. The watch consists of three vertical dials, plus windows on the sides, where different figures appear every hour. It's a crazy sight, especially when you find out the age! You must see it! (metro is nearby)

The astronomical clock Orloy, or as they are also called the Prague Chimes, is one of the symbols of the Czech capital. Tourists are constantly crowding around them, hoping to see a small colorful performance that takes place every hour. The first mention of the Orloy clock dates back to 1402. Since then, they have gone through countless reconstructions, restorations, and modernizations, but they have never left the Old Town Square. It is difficult to say what the watch looked like initially. It is known for sure that in 1410, thanks to the efforts of astronomer and mathematician Jan Schindel, they became mechanical and acquired the legendary astronomical dial. 80 years later, in 1490, the watch was modernized by master Ganush, who added a lower dial to it, and also "put a gloss on it" by decorating it with Gothic sculptures. In the XVII century, they were accompanied by figures of the apostles. As a result, the mechanism turned out to be really complicated. A special person was responsible for keeping the watch in good condition, but it was not always possible to find a decent specialist. Because of this, the chimes often broke down, and sometimes even stopped for a while on the orders of the king. In 1945, the clock faced a serious test – it burned down along with the Old Town Hall. Perhaps it was one of the most tragic moments for the residents of Prague during the Second World War. For three years, the best craftsmen in Europe assembled the Eagle literally by cogs. As a result, today 75% of the parts in the watch are old, original, and 25% are new. However, the mechanism was completely preserved – it remained the same as it was many years ago. The dial is surrounded by 12 animals – real and fictional. They did not appear here by chance, each has its own meaning, many are called upon to perform a protective function. There are 4 sculptures on the sides: a magician, a miser, a skeleton and a Turk, which are the personification of human vices. The lower dial of the Orloy represents the Manes calendar. There are also 4 sculptures around it: Archangel Michael, philosopher, chronicler and astronomer. Every hour from 8-00 to 20-00, the astronomical dial of the Orloy clock turns into a place where a real theatrical action is played out. Sculptures of Christ and the 12 apostles appear in the upper windows, then a real "struggle" with human vices unfolds. If you still decide to visit this amazing place, the Astronomical clock Orloy is located on the Old Town Square, right on the tower of the Town Hall of the same name. You can get here by metro (the nearest station is Staromestska), trams № 1, 2, 14, 17, 18, 25, 53 ( the stop is called the same as the metro station) or bus 194 (stop Staromestske namest? – it is located closest to the square). I highly recommend visiting. You won't regret it.

The clock is like a clock) They call every hour. When we were in Prague, about 100 tourists gathered to look at the clock. We also held our breath waiting for a miracle and unusual videos. Here it is the long-awaited ringing and ... nothing special. The figures looked at each other, twirled and twitched a little) No wow. But we are from St. Petersburg, so we are sophisticated in terms of all sorts of unusual things. And for someone, this watch may become a very vivid memory!

Not everyone knows, but you can go up to the observation deck. Stunning view of the city. You can also see how the figures of the apostles move when the clock rings. A small museum in the Orloy Tower.

It's beautiful, of course, but it's completely understandable why a huge crowd is constantly gathering there? To see how the dolls look out the window? The expectations were not justified. I liked the clock tower of Rezo Gabriadze in Tbilisi more))
