Sabancı Merkez Camii Mosque is located in Adana, right on the banks of the Seyhan River, and is considered the largest mosque in Turkey. It covers an area of 6,600 m2, and around it another 52,600 m2. The mosque can accommodate up to 28,500 people! It has 6 minarets, 4 of which rise to 99 meters, and the other two to 75 meters. The main dome is 54 meters high and 32 meters in diameter. It is impressive. At the same time, it is surprising that this grandiose building was built in less than a year. When Adana suffered a severe earthquake in 1998 that killed people and destroyed the city, the religious foundation of Turkey and the Sabanji Foundation, founded by billionaire Sakip Sabanji, allocated funds for the construction of a mosque to support local residents. Now Sabanci is a kind of symbol of the rebirth of the city. It is located in such a way that the high minarets are visible from almost anywhere in Adana. From the outside, the mosque is decorated in the classical style of Ottoman mosques and resembles the Sultan Ahmet Mosque in Istanbul, while inside it is similar to the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne. The minarets are made of reinforced concrete, which was made of white cement and ivory rubble. The calligraphic work was done by master Hussein Kutlu, and all the decoration and tiles are the work of architect Nakasa M. Semikh. The wooden doors are made in the Kundekari style, the colored glass was created by Abdulkadir Audin, and the mukarnas were created by Ali Turan. The entrance to the mosque is made of marble. The complex is also equipped with a radio system that broadcasts sermons in more than 275 mosques within a radius of 60 km. There is a large public library on the western side of the mosque. The building stands in a picturesque place on the riverbank, and nearby there is a huge park with greenery and fountains.
