We had a family vacation on December 23, 24 to January 02, 25. We spent a long time choosing a place to live, in this case a guesthouse, and we were not mistaken at all. Very nice and friendly family of Anjou, Dinache, Surange. The beach is 150-200 m away, and the main street is a couple of steps away. It's a very quiet place, we woke up in the morning to the mewing of peacocks, squirrels running on the roofs, monkeys jumping in the trees far away, but this is also a plus. A gecko came to visit in the evening, but no other animals were seen. Deluxe room 2 on the 3rd floor. It is very convenient that you can buy water in the guest and exchange dollars at a good exchange rate. You can do it without leaving the cash register))) to go on an excursion, they will be guided by Anjou. And of course, it's a huge plus that Anjou speaks Russian well, Surange to a lesser extent, but speaks English well. Breakfasts, they are of the same type for Sri Lanka, I took smoked sausage and cheese with me from the Russian Federation, my boys had enough for the whole period with omelets for breakfast. We had lunch and dinner in Peacock, I recommend trying cuttlefish from them, my son ate it during the entire vacation period. During our period, the ocean was choppy for the first five days. Remember, even in the calm bay of Unawatuna, going into the ocean is not a problem, but getting out can be problematic. There are reverse currents, so I do not recommend swimming. Overall, I really liked the country and the ocean. Would this hotelier have returned? Definitely yes!!!! All that remains is to catch tickets to Colombo worth 30,000 rubles in both directions. By the way, I contacted Anju in advance and brought gifts to him and his family, he has 2 little girls, 1 and 4 years old. If you suddenly decide to make a gift to the host of the guest - good Russian vodka. I saw a collection of empty bottles in his house. I definitely recommend it, it's a very pleasant and warm feeling of relaxation.
Hotel- guest house See Breeze. We were with a friend in February 2025.
I liked everything.
The owner himself greets Anji. Speaks excellent Russian.
We settled first on the ground floor. Despite the fact that there were two beds in the room, the very location of the room and the interior layout are inconvenient. We asked for another room and were transferred to the 3rd floor the next day. The room is bright, fresh, and clean.
Vacationers at other hotels complained of mosquitoes, bugs, and a non-functioning air conditioner. Everything was great with us in this regard. We slept in silence and in the cool. The water pressure is good even on the 3rd floor.
There are floor scales at the reception. Suitcases can be checked for weight before departure.
The breakfast was monotonous, from 8.00 to 10.00. A plate of fruit, toasts, coffee/tea, and an egg dish to choose from (menu in the last photo). It's good that there's a new refrigerator in the room. You can bring some of the products with you from Russia.
It is very convenient that dollars can be exchanged with the owners, water can be bought cheaper than in stores, and the hostess can order sewing / repair of clothes. I saw one girl putting things in the laundry right at the hotel.
And go on a field trip with Angie. He has his own travel agency and the prices are lower. The main thing is that he accompanies you from the hotel, takes lunch boxes for everyone, treats you to tea/ coffee in a cafe on the way, distributes bananas for a snack. He tells interesting things and answers questions in the role of a guide.
About where you can eat. We first went to a cafe based on reviews. Next to the hotel, they went out through the back gate and turned there at the first turn to the right. There's a big Taco King sign. We ate well. There is no 10% markup, as in the cafes on the shopping and entertainment street. But something didn't suit us. Both the taste of the food and the portions are small. And we found another cafe, it's not on the Yandex map. Most of the people who eat there are English, or rather English-speaking. If you go to the highway, this is the road where intercity buses run – Crazy basses. So, there are 2 cafes not reaching the road. There's a 2-storey building right on the road, we didn't go in there, there's pizza. And next to it, we need to enter the courtyard, as it were, there is just that cafe CHAMI, which we liked. And clean and polite, there is no extra charge. The main thing is delicious. (photos are attached).
Important! The hotel has two exits. The main one is where we went to the main road, if you turn left at the fork. And to the beach, if you go to the right.
But there's also a back exit. Who can tell you about him? If only the vacationers themselves will share. From this exit you can access the shopping street. Everything is very close. As soon as you enter the shopping street, there are 2 cafes on the left, they are opposite each other. There are usually a lot of people there in the evenings. We would try grilled seafood. We regretted that we didn't go there. There are a lot of people, I think it's delicious there. We looked at the prices, which are very affordable.
If you turn left along the bus road, you can walk to the Food City grocery store in 1- 1.5 km. we bought coconut oil at home and many other things. (in the photo)
I recommend the See Breeze Guest House. If we go again, it will only be to this hotel. Only to Angie and his hospitable family.
Thank you so much for the warm attitude and the quality of the services.
A wonderful guesthouse with a good owner (I solved all issues promptly). The location is excellent, a couple of minutes to the main street and 5 minutes to the beach. It takes 10-15 minutes to get to Aralia slowly. I rested at the beginning of July 24. I took the standard room, when the air conditioner broke down, the owner of Anzhi moved without additional charges to the deluxe (pictured), it is better for couples to take these rooms, the standard will be too cramped, the second floor is the best. This is not a hotel, you do not need to expect conditions like in a hotel! A modest non-varied breakfast, it seems to me better to book without breakfast and take tea and coffee with you, there is a kettle in the rooms. We took a 2-day tour from the owner, we really liked it, everything was organized with dignity. There is a great Taco bar nearby, price and quality. There was a downpour for 10 days of rest. In general, I really enjoyed my vacation in Sri Lanka. The only drawback is that there is no hair dryer in the rooms.
Let's start with the main attraction and advantage of this guest house - Anjou! If you are a Russian speaker, you have trouble with English, then you are just here! If you want a bike, a car with or without a driver, a transfer, an excursion, a change of currency, delicious tea or spices, or anything, Anjou will instantly arrange everything for you at the highest level! Understands everything from half a word and speaks excellent Russian.
Now about the guest house. Great green area, cozy at home. Monkeys, hummingbirds, parrots and other animals enter the territory (if you're lucky), peacocks scream in the morning. It is generally close to the beach (two minutes walk). It's not a noisy, passable street. The rooms are not bad, there are generally unpretentious (do not wait for the Turkish five here, you are going to Sri Lanka and really evaluate the price category of the tour). The air conditioners are working, a small refrigerator and a simple safe are in all rooms, there were no interruptions with hot water and electricity. There was cleaning, if you want them to clean up more often, ask Anjou. Breakfast, as well as everywhere else, is standard (omelette, fried eggs, toast, fruit). It's not very clear, but eat with pleasure, I can't say anything bad. A cozy place to eat, you feel like a big family there.
For a 3* house, everything is probably OK. I haven't been in one of these for a long time. The bed is ordinary, it is cleaned infrequently (once every 3-4 days). Breakfast consists of scrambled eggs (their national pancakes with chili are impossible to eat), 3 pieces of fruit, bread with margarine and tea or coffee. The whole family lives in the same house. On the territory: cats, dogs, monitor lizards, palm squirrels and sometimes monkeys. The territory, although small, is very green. The ocean is a 5-minute walk away. There is an antique shop around the corner.
A great guest house. A nice place, quiet and at the same time close to the beach and the ocean, only 150 meters. And 30 meters to the tourist street. The brother of the owner, Anji, speaks Russian well and cooks and conducts excursions perfectly. Air-conditioned rooms with spacious refrigerators and a kitchen area with a gas stove
The Sea Breeze hotel is only 3 stars, so initially you do not need to judge strictly if you went here. Actually, it's not even a hotel, it's a guest house.
There were 7 of us, so we saw several rooms and all different, although the classification is the same)
When we arrived, everyone was settled in Deluxe rooms, but we didn't have enough and we lived for a day in the Standard room No. 6 on the ground floor. The room is on the ground floor, therefore sad, there is more dampness, insects, mold. A day later, we were moved to a Deluxe room on the second floor. And this is a completely different matter, better repairs, fewer insects.
Although they write that there are safes, they do not attach in any way. Our friends did not have a safe, they complained and brought them a safe))) So, nothing really valuable needs to be stored there.
The hotel is good in terms of location. Through the central exit 2-3 minutes and you're on the beach. And if you go out through the back gate, then 1 minute and you're on a tourist street with lots of cafes, shops and other entertainment. It's too bad that we found out about the back gate late and ate mostly on the beach.
In general, if we talk about this area of Sri Lanka, then there are either such hotels in the center of the hangout, or large, good hotels, but far from life.
The hotel only includes breakfast without much variety. Usually these are 3 pieces of small fruits (banana / mango, etc.), I note a small banana and pieces of fruit, a quarter or a fifth. And also by choice: fried eggs, omelette or boiled eggs from 2 eggs. Or three equally spicy dishes of local cuisine (Sri Lankan) from the same ingredients. Tea, a couple of slices of bread, a piece of jam and a piece of margarine (They call it butter, but this is margarine Frame from the 90s :))
There are not enough tables for everyone, so those who have time, the rest are waiting. Food is taken at tables outside, but under a canopy.
As said, you can order lunch and dinner at the hotel, but seeing the quality of the breakfasts, everyone orders delivery. The delivery is there, it works, use it. Or you can just walk down the street for 3 minutes and sit in a cafe or buy food and come to your room to eat.
A good hotel for a Russian person is also the fact that it is a 10-minute walk from the liquor store))) Read my separate review about the alcohol market and about deceptions and other price frauds.
Sometimes monkeys come for breakfast on a nearby tree. Many people feed them by giving them a banana.
If you live on the 3rd floor, then monkeys will look into your windows and on the balcony, it's better not to leave things to dry or at least tie them. Not out of spite, but for the sake of interest, monkeys can throw them down)))
As with many guest ladies, his host and his family live right there. Russian Russian is spoken quite well by the owner of Anjou, which is why there are a lot of Russians in this hotel. Russian Russian As it turned out, he received his education in Sri Lanka and realizing that there were more and more Russian tourists, he chose to study the Russian language.
You can also buy excursions from the owner, and much cheaper than from the tour operator. We took 2 excursions from him, and for a two-day trip he himself went with us as a guide, told us everything, showed us. We went to Candy on a 2-day excursion and spent the night there in a much nicer hotel than the one where we lived.
We also went on Safari. To be honest, there are more animals in the city than in the reserve. They lure you with Tigers, but even the cars are open and of course there will be no tigers... And so it was. In addition to those animals that were seen in the city (monkeys, peacocks, monitor lizards), they saw only one elephant, which was covered with all the cars and even felt sorry for him and the bulls and deer. There are a lot of cars on this tour, there are not even as many animals as there are cars)))
We took individual ones so as not to jostle in a big bus and therefore traveled in a minibus for 7 people, which is very good. Everything adjusted to us, they did not want to go somewhere and did not go, they wanted to stay longer, took a walk.
It is also better to book an individual transfer to and from the hotel to the airport. We did not do this on arrival and paid the price... they loaded us into a big bus, drove us for 2.5 hours, dropped people off at a large hotel on the outskirts, then drove back for 30 minutes and dropped everyone off. On the street, the guide began to catch local tuk-tuks and hitchhikers, negotiate and stuff people there, then the tuks were already taking everyone to the hotels. This part of the city was built up chaotically and all the streets are small, so a big bus will not pass. But if in Thailand they were comfortable minibuses of a travel agency, then here they are tuk-tuks who were caught on the road. I will say one thing, if you are old, then this will be another adventure)))
In 10 minutes by Tuk-tuk there is a turtle beach where you can watch and feed huge turtles.
The whole coast was built up chaotically without any architects. This can be seen in the structure of narrow streets and houses, which sometimes are not even perpendicular to each other. There is also a humid climate here, it reached 95%.
We lived on the 2nd floor, no monkeys came to us, but there were plenty of chipmunks. These Chips and Dales were walking on the tree on our balcony and whistling. Also, one parrot was seen living in a tree in a nearby vegetable garden.
The attitude towards Russians is excellent, even on the owner's car there is a heart in the form of a Russian flag. The owner speaks Russian. What else is needed? This country is quite poor, not developed, so when you come here, you know that you do not need to demand service, and it is pointless.
All the hotels around here are similar. If you can easily communicate in English, then you can search, but with Russian-speaking well-speaking staff, it's a strain. Even when the guide picked us up from the airport, he spoke Russian poorly. And in the neighboring hotels and restaurants, even English is not very well known, as well as Russian... That's the choice. This is such a country, the hotel has nothing to do with it.
Wi-Fi could disappear, appear, could be good or bad... apparently it depends on the mood. It's good that we bought SIM cards at the airport and we didn't care)))
We had tourists who didn't have enough rooms, they were checked into other hotels and they were outraged. I do not know who is to blame for the hotel or the travel agency, but it is not pleasant.
We had a rest in January 2024.
It's a great place. Nice guesthouse. We were given a deluxe room, although we booked a standard room. Room with a balcony and ocean view.Friendly hosts. The beach is a two-minute walk away. Anjou is Russian-speaking. If something is needed, it helps to solve it. The best beach in Unawatuna.
The owner of Anjou speaks Russian, which is a big plus in solving emerging problems. The rooms are decent, we took the deluxe. The breakfasts are the same every day, either European or Lankan (it must be ordered the day before). Cleaning for 9 days was done once with a change of linen and towels. I washed the floors myself every day because of the sand. The owner has his own tour agency, they took excursions to Yalu on safari and two-day trips to Ella and Kandy, a third cheaper than the tour operator. Geckos ran along the walls of the room, chipmunks jump along the branches, monkeys come to the balcony. Exotic. Turtle Beach is a five-minute tuk-tuk ride away, it is impossible to walk along the shore.
We had a rest in December 2023. Upon check-in, we changed the room by paying extra for an apartment. The owner of Anju knows Russian, conducts interesting excursions. We went on a day trip to the 9th arch bridge. Breakfast is standard eggs, tests, coffee. It doesn't matter to us. Burunluks, cats, a dog and snails live on the territory of the hotel. The vacation was great. We were satisfied with the hotel. But our rest consisted in constant movement. We only spent the night at the hotel.
We have been on vacation since June 16, we really liked everything, we were lucky with the weather and liked the owner of Anjou and his wife Dinash very much, very responsive and pleasant people, close to the sea and the entire infrastructure is not far away,
A hotel with a very friendly, decent and attentive host of Anjou, who speaks Russian. A monkey lives on the roof, peacocks walk, small squirrels whistle in the trees. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel with my wife.
We had a rest from 12/26/2021 to 01/15/2022. together with my wife. A wonderful place, the owners are very friendly. Anjou speaks Russian well, which solves many issues. The hotel is clean, cozy, pleasant service, good location, the beach and the main street are nearby. I would like to come again.
Sergey, Tatiana
A great place to relax! Quiet, cozy. Anjou (the host) will help with excursions, transfers, advise what to buy, where to exchange currency. Speaks Russian well.We had a great rest! Thank you, Anjou!
A piggy attitude. We were in 2020. Booked, arrived. They meet you and inform you that the room is occupied. Stay for two days in another room that smells of mold. Three days later, they were only moved to a normal room. Yes, Anjou speaks Russian and took me on an excursion to all sorts of places where everyone sells trash to tourists.
But there is also an older brother who doesn't care about your problems and doesn't know Russian....
Now the most interesting thing. We ordered a good room on the 3rd floor through Booking, fortunately we already knew that the bottom of the room was a garbage dump with mold. They approved it, called Anjou, said it was all right, come. Today (02/18/2023) we arrived, Anjou left on an excursion with the guests. The elder brother Surange meets us and sends us in direct text to all four sides. He says that my guests have been extended for 5 days and there are no places. Wherever you want, go there. And we booked for 2 weeks. After long calls with Angie, we decided to provide a kennel on the ground floor. No windows, no balcony. And we ordered a family room with a balcony.
Avoid this hotel. We talked to the guests today. Half of the guests are disappointed. It has not been cleaned for the fourth day. Electricity is often cut off in the evenings for two to three hours.
This is just a bombastic hotel, I wrote a detailed review on tophotols. Clean, beautiful, always water, 2 minutes to the ocean, the whole infra is nearby. To the owner of Anjou with any request (tours, market, rent..)
We lived in this guest house for 15 days, a very cozy house, the location of the rooms is such that residents do not face looking into the windows. The owners are two brothers, good guys, responsive.the location is great, very close to the ocean, but not on the beach, so it's quiet, except for the sounds of animals, as in the village, which is what Unawatuna is listed. We had breakfast at the guest, bought seafood in addition at the market and the cook or the owner himself cooked for us, very tasty. But also those who found cafes nearby on the main road of the village, especially liked the cafe, which was not promoted, but very tasty and inexpensive, called RAMPE, a married couple keeps this cafe
Very cozy hotel, attentive staff. Yes, it's not 5 stars in Turkey, but there is everything for a wonderful vacation in an exotic country. Vladets Anju will show you Sri Lanka in all its glory for an adequate fee, plus he speaks Russian. I've flown there 2 times and I'm thinking of flying again
The rooms are more or less spacious only on the 2.3 floor. Everything on the first one is mildewed. For this money, it is better to rent another hotel.
