We made the ascent on foot (~ 45 minutes), which we never regretted. Cows graze in the vicinity of the fortress. In my opinion, the ascent is not difficult. Of course, it is better to go in good weather, because after the rain it can be slippery. The fortress itself is certainly impressive in size and that it was built in such an inaccessible place.
You can get there on foot or by SUV. There were cars at the foot that could take you to the fortress for a fee.
A wall and a couple of rooms remained from the fortress itself. More emotion is caused by the fact of the rise rather than the place itself.
But what is left is in good and well-maintained condition
One of the greatest impressions in Armenia came from visiting this fortress. Yes, this is not an Amberd in architecture, almost nothing remains of this fortress, but the views, the air, as well as the ascent itself on foot left an unforgettable impression. We walked an hour and a half to the fortress. The ascents may seem steep for unprepared tourists, but they are quite passable, because you are not walking along the path, but along the road. We had a 4-year-old child with us, part of the way passed by herself, part on her shoulders.
Sports shoes, caps, water, sunscreen are required if in summer. There's nothing to do in the rain, that's for sure. At the exit from the road towards the fortress, there are locals on SUVs and can take them to the fortress and back. In rubles, a little more than 2 thousand. But if by car, then a huge part of the impressions will pass you by.
It's not a very "hyped" place. The locals offer to take you up and back from the road for 15Kdram. I advise you to plan your time and walk away from the road. It's not easy, but you will "feel the difference"
It was the strongest impression during the entire two-week trip to Armenia, one of the reasons for the very steep serpentine with breathtaking views, and of course the fortress itself and most importantly, we were absolutely alone there, which gave a feeling of incredible adventure. We climbed Suzuki jimni, don't even think about it in a passenger car and be sure to go down the mountain with an assistant, a very steep serpentine! We recommend it!

A very beautiful place with the remains of a fortress. It takes about an hour to walk from the bottom, the road goes up all the time, the difficulty is easy.
Unfortunately, they could not get to the fortress itself, because a personal car did not allow them to drive along the broken road. In fact, this is the last section of the way, but without an SUV with good clearance, it is better not to climb there.
We were with a guide, a group in cars. The road is scary, but I am very afraid of heights ... the place itself is of course very beautiful))))) magical)))))))
