St. Peter's Church is a Roman Catholic, Franciscan church in Jaffa. The current church was built between 1888 and 1894 and was last renovated in 1903.
Masses are held here in English, Italian, Spanish, Polish and German. The church is open daily. It is popular among Polish workers who come here to pray on Saturdays, on their day off.
The bright orange facade and high bell tower make St. Peter's Church the only recognizable one in Old Jaffa. The interior of the church resembles the cathedrals of Europe with a high vaulted ceiling, stained glass windows and marble walls.
The stained glass windows were made in Munich by the famous artist F. K. Zettler. Four panels in the front of the church depict episodes from the life of St. Peter, including the miraculous fishing, the handing over of keys, the Transfiguration of Christ on Mount Tabor and the washing of feet at the Last Supper.Except for the rights image. The Tabitha, St. Francis of Assisi and the Immaculate Conception, and other stained glass windows in the church depict Spanish saints, which is not surprising, since the current building was built with Spanish funds. The pulpit, which is carved in the shape of a tree, should also be noted.
The church was built on this site because Jaffa is of great importance to Christianity. It was in Jaffa that St. Peter resurrected the rights. Tabitha, one of Jesus' disciples.
The spire of St. Peter's Church in Old Jaffa has been a beacon for pilgrims tired of the sea crossing for centuries, showing them that the Holy Land is nearby...
I will not get tired of writing that you need to be here to see it live!
