The State Museum of History and Culture of Uzbekistan is one of the most important cultural and scientific centers of the country, located in the heart of Samarkand. Founded with the aim of preserving and exploring the rich heritage of the region, this museum tells about the centuries-old history, traditions and achievements of the peoples living on the territory of modern Uzbekistan. 🏛️
Unique expositions
The museum has an impressive collection of exhibits reflecting different eras: from the most ancient archaeological finds to artifacts dating back to the Timurid era and the modern period. Here you can see rare manuscripts, coins, household items, national costumes and samples of applied art. Each exhibition brings to life historical events and provides a better understanding of the cultural development of the region. 📜
Architecture and atmosphere
The museum building impresses with its architecture, combining national traditions and elements of modern design. The interiors create an atmosphere of immersion in history, and the competent arrangement of the expositions allows you to study the materials in chronological order. 🌟
Interactive features
The museum actively uses modern technologies, offering interactive programs, multimedia presentations and guided tours. This place is suitable for both in-depth study of history and for family visits, where everyone will find something interesting for themselves. 🖥️
Our services
For museum visitors, we offer convenient transfers from your hotel or address in Samarkand to the museum and back. In addition, the museum can be included in your city tour itinerary or made part of a thematic tour! 🚗✨
Externally, the building is very beautiful, inside it is more modest. It includes archaeological finds, exhibits of national clothes and carpets, an exhibition of paintings, and more. Tickets cost 30,000 soums, we were lucky and we were allocated a young guide.
The overall impression remained positive, and the new knowledge gained complemented the mosaic of the general idea of the history of Samarkand and Uzbekistan.
It is better to start your trip around the city with the historical museum. Good exhibitions with the sarcophagus of Amir Temur, copies of the Koran, archaeological finds and works by the artist Benkov
A very nice and interesting museum, a separate big plus for the staff, very responsive and friendly!
Convenient location, in general everything is great, thank you!
I recommend visiting this museum, everyone will find something interesting for themselves. The exhibits and paintings fascinate with their beauty and grace.
Not the most interesting place in Samarkand. Don't waste your time and money. They only accept cash, and you will not be able to pay with a card or QR code.
few exhibits
There are several interesting museums in Samarkand. The most interesting museum of the history of Samarkand is Afrosiab. There is also an interesting museum of peoples and tolerance of religions. The museum of local lore is interesting in its own way, especially the Jewish part. Even the tetragrammaton of God's name can be seen.
The historical museum is very beautifully laid out . The museum of our childhood has been preserved exactly . Thank you for containing historical artifacts and antiquities in this form.
It's a strange place. Employees are following us around as if they think we want to steal or spoil something. The exposition itself leaves much to be desired - a small-town museum of the village level, and not a tourist center of Uzbekistan. In order to go to some new hall, they were asked to take off their shoes (explained by the presence of a new carpet, on which you can not walk in shoes). They refused. I don't recommend it.
Very interesting, beautiful expositions, but the premises and the building themselves are not in the best condition. The staff is helpful, they even told us a little about some of the exhibits.
Poorly developed exposition, little information. The app only works if you are connected to wifi, which is inconvenient. The building needs renovation. At the same time, the staff is very friendly and nice
The museum is wonderful, many thanks to the curators. A good selection of exhibits, although there is an obvious bias towards materials from Samarkand. Special thanks for the upper gallery with local crafts - suzane seems to have something similar to a tapestry.
We were very satisfied, we will come again.
1. The first disappointment is that there is no Russian-speaking guide, excursions in Russian are not conducted.
The second disappointment is Pavel Benkov's wonderful painting "Girlfriends" in 1940 (copy or original?) it stands on the floor under the stairs near the passage to the toilet. Without any identification marks.
What is depicted in the painting? Two girls, a Russian and an Uzbek, who have become friends, and an Uzbek girl shows a new girlfriend how to pick grapes. The blonde girl looks at the huge juicy bunches with delight. And the girls are closely watched by a grandfather in a turban and curious brothers.
Pavel Petrovich Benkov is a wonderful artist, moved to Samarkand in 1930, was one of the leading artists of the Samarkand Art School, which bore his name until 1991. His paintings are full of light, joy, colors and love for Uzbekistan, where he remained until his death.
- Do you have any more paintings by Pavel Benkov in the museum?
- Yes, but mostly in the vault. There seems to be one or two in the hall.
We only found one.
2. Carefully reading the description of the museum stuff, they found a strange thing that was listed as "A pendant for a cage with a kerepsack. III half of the XIX century".
They began to Google who kerepsyaka was. Google doesn't know anything about kerepsyak. They began to fantasize. The caretaker, who had been enthusiastically watching a video from her phone, came up to our laughter.
- Tell me, please, who is kerepsyaka?
- What???
- Well, it says here -...
- Ahhh. It's a canary. That's what our staff wrote. I teach them...
In general, we learned little about the history of Uzbekistan in the museum, more about modernity.
Why is the painting "Girlfriends" by the Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Pavel Benkov standing on the floor under the stairs?!
This is a wonderful picture, like everything that Pavel Benkova painted in Samarkand.
Otherwise, we liked the museum very much, we went through all the halls, read about yurts, carpets and clothes, an interesting hall about the history of the study of Timur's burial.
I would also like to tell you about such an element of the national costume as a skullcap in the hall of clothes. Which is also mentioned by A. Navoi and is still popular with Uzbeks and tourists. There are so many kinds of them, so many ornaments...
The internal content of the museum does not correspond to the external appearance. There are not many exhibits, some of them were given for restoration or "rental", and nothing was put in place
To be honest, such museums are very similar in the three largest cities of Uzbekistan. If you haven't been to others, have fun, it will be interesting. If you have already been to similar ones, then you will just see something similar
the ticket for foreigners is 25 thousand.
without a guide, it's just a set of exhibits, it's not interesting, only if you go prepared
Taking pictures is a separate fee, but no one really looks after it.
it's good that there is a nazzar application, as well as three floors with various objects of antiquity and culture of Uzbekistan
