The main decoration of the central district is traditionally considered to be the Annunciation Cathedral (Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Sukhum) — the main temple of the self-proclaimed Abkhazian Orthodox Church. This is the former Greek Church of St. St. Nicholas Church, built in 1909-1915 at the expense of the Greek community of the city and reconstructed in the 1980s, turning into one of the most magnificent buildings in the city. The temple houses the relics of Panteleimon the Healer, as well as a number of unique icons, including Archangel Michael and Archangel Gabriel (XIII century). The tomb of John Chrysostom, which was also located in this temple, was moved to the village of Koman (15 km) in 1990. northwest of the city)

One of the best cathedrals. It used to be called the Greek Church of St. Nicholas. The Orthodox Greeks, residents of Sukhum, built it at their own expense. Beautiful architecture, marble iconostasis, ancient icons at the altar. Inside there are carpets, cozy, beautiful. Wonderful fathers, they serve in full rank.
