The Stone Bridge was built in 1579 by the Ottoman Sultan III. It was built by Lala Mustafa Pasha during the reconstruction works initiated by Murat's order.
The bridge was destroyed due to a flood in 1715; the present bridge was built by Hacı Ebubekir Karahanoğlu, one of the city's ashraf, in 1719 in accordance with the original. For this reason, it is also known as the Karahanoglu Stone Bridge.
The entire bridge is made of smooth-cut basalt stone. It has three vaulted arches and three eyes. To the south of it, there is a smaller, round-arch shaped discharge eye.
