We had a family vacation in November 2024. This is not the first time. It's a nice hotel by Sri Lankan standards, quiet. Good breakfasts. Good internet connection. The room is fresh, clean, and the beds are soft and clean. The air conditioner and the fan handle the heat perfectly. There's always an ocean breeze through the huge window, not the stink of exhaust fumes. In the evenings, they sometimes arrange a local performance (for an amateur). It's a long way to get to it along the narrow street of Unawatuna. An expensive bar and restaurant, if you want to have lunch or dinner, but there are no problems with this in street restaurants, although it has also risen in price over the past two years
Thaproban Pavilion Resort and Spa 4*.
I went with my husband to rest at this hotel from November 28 for 10 days. The hotel is in a beautiful location. In general, the hotel is not bad, friendly and attentive staff, clean territory. We lived in room 117 with an ocean view. Room cleaning for 4, breakfasts are not bad but monotonous. There was evening animation 2 times. It's a 10-minute walk to the beach. The advantages ended there.
Disadvantages of the hotel.
There is a safe in the room, but it is not bolted down at all, you can easily get it out of the closet. (weighs 3-4 kg)
The hotel has an elevator, but it does not work.
If it rains heavily (it happened 2 times during our stay), the hotel floods completely. There is water in the hall, in the corridors and on the stairs. There is black mold on the walls in some places.
I do not recommend using the laundry room. My husband and I took a skirt and trousers to the laundry, and for the first time we washed them as if we hadn't washed them at all (we couldn't wash the ketchup stain and the blood stain). We went to the reception and showed them the results of their washing, they offered to do it at their expense, and we agreed on our own. They said they would give us the things in 2 days. 2 days pass and there are no things, we go to the reception at about 12 p.m. and start to find out where our things are, the receptionist said that they should be brought from the laundress later. It takes about 4 hours, we go to the reception again, they "feed us with promises" again. We go to the reception at 7 p.m. and again we hear promises that they will bring us to our room in an hour. As a result, the time is 10 p.m. and there are no things (to complete the picture, we check out of the hotel the next day at 5 a.m.) The hotel manager comes to our room at 10:30 p.m. and tells us the story that our belongings were LOST! in the laundry room. And all he can offer us is to send them to us by mail to Russia. There's nothing to do, they agreed. The manager promised to write to us on WhatsApp in 2 days (when he sends things by mail) as a result, a month has passed and silence. As a result, an expensive skirt and expensive trousers were simply stolen from us. There is no limit to my indignation. This situation has ruined the whole experience of staying at this hotel.
The hotel positions itself as a 4* but in fact their ceiling is 3*.
A nice, quiet hotel away from the bustling Unawatuna street. The rooms are large, spacious, clean and beautiful. Cleaning 2 times a day. I didn't like the breakfasts, but there is a place to eat in Sri Lanka. There is no private beach, but it is in this hotel that there is a gorgeous sunset view. We didn't regret taking this hotel in Unawatuna.
