The oldest preserved necropolis in Gomel In the 19th century, the city's population grew very rapidly and the modern city center consisted of cemeteries mixed with residential buildings. It was decided to stop burials in Gomel and set aside a new site for them . So in 1885, the first burials began on the Novobelitsky (Zasozhsky) graves. According to some reports, Polish gentry were previously buried in these places. Of particular interest are two tombstones — Onufry Osipovich Solodovnikov and Mikhail Matveevich Filonov, signed "In memory of Grand Duke Paskevich". After the death of his surveyor and archivist, he made them the last gifts — he installed commemorative tombstones and put up cast-iron fences. Many respected people of that time are buried here. The mayor of Gomel, the leader of the nobility of the Mogilev region, is Adolf Krushevsky, and the hunting lodge in which the Gomel Museum is now located belonged to his family in those years. Boleslav Derengovsky, the famous photographer of pre—revolutionary Gomel, Onisim Shchekudov, the author of the famous 1910 city plan, and Vladimir Korotkevich, the Gomel director and Honored Artist of Belarus, also rest here. Representatives of noble families, soldiers of the Russian army during the First World War, and military pilots of the 1920s are also buried there. Previously, there were several pre-revolutionary crypts that were all destroyed, leaving only one small Catholic chapel. Soldiers from the First World War are also buried here, and later a mass grave was made with veterans of the Second World War. Unfortunately, this cemetery has been repeatedly destroyed and looted by vandals and looters. Many monuments and tombstones have been destroyed.

The cemetery is not cleaned of foliage and branches, containers are missing where they are needed. Someone is setting fire to huge piles of foliage. Two years ago, old trees were cut down on the territory. One of them fell on the fence, damaged the monument, it fell. When contacting the special plant, they said that they did not know anything about any work. We had to restore everything ourselves.
