It is one of the important symbols of Ankara.
It is located in Ulus Square. The monument was erected in 1927 as a gift of the Turkish Nation to the heroes of the War of Independence. There are two stylized wolf heads on the side face. On the obverse, two Turkish Soldiers are depicted with one hand calling their friends to battle and the other watching the horizons. On the right side of the hull, the relief depicts Atatürk and his friends in the Battle of Commander-in-Chief Square; on the left side, the invasion army saluting the glorious Turkish Flag is depicted. On the upper part of the hull there is a message “Armies, Your First Target is the Mediterranean, Forward! Dumlupınar 1922" is written. An overturned plane tree in the back represents the Ottoman Empire and a young sapling sprouting from its trunk represents the new Republic of Turkey. The figure of a woman carrying a bullet on her back is a memory of the heroism of Turkish women in the War of Independence. At the top, Atatürk is on a horse with the Commander-in-Chief's outfit.
