I highly recommend this museum to understand the life and history of Vienna and the whole of Austria. The exposition on the first three floors is permanent, free, very interesting, it will take a couple of hours (if you don't stick)- it's like traveling through Austria through time: from the period before our era to the present. The museum presents and perfectly reveals the main milestones and trends in art, music, important political and historical events. Paintings by famous Austrian artists, such as Klimt, Schiele, are presented. By visiting this museum, you will get acquainted with Austria's entire contribution to world art, as well as with the country's role in world history. The last hall will introduce you to the thinking of modern Austrians, it is rational-positive, very reasonable (although it will sometimes seem different to you on the street;).
