The Victoria Memorial is a sculpture located in the center of the Royal Garden in front of Buckingham Palace, and dedicated to Queen Victoria.
The memorial was consecrated in 1911 by Victoria's eldest grandson, George V and his cousin William II. The sculptor was Sir Thomas Brock. The memorial itself was completed in 1914 with the installation of a bronze statue.
The pedestal, designed by architect Aston Webb from white marble, weighs 2,300 tons.
The face of the statue of Victoria is facing north-east, towards the Mall. On the other three sides of the pedestal there are marble statues of the Angel of Justice (facing northwest towards Green Park), the Angel of Truth (facing southeast), and the Angel of Mercy sitting in front of Buckingham Palace. There is a Victory at the top, with two sitting figures.
The entire memorial has a maritime theme. On it, you can see creatures pointing to the sea power of the United Kingdom - mermaids, mermaids and hippogriffs.
