This was my first visit to Парк Победы (Victory Park) and a a westerner of Russian ancestry this was an important vist.
The size of the park is unlike anything in the West for the veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
The park pays tribute to the great sacrifices made by the USSR to defeat Nazism. The obelisk in the centre of the park has very detailed carvings of Soviet soldiers in the fight against the evil of Nazism along with banners of the names of the batttles they faught.
Symbolically a stautue of St. George Victorious guards the obelisk where he is depicted slaying the giant snake that preyed on the innocent.
This is not really considered a park park. It's very historical and has a little playground on the side for children. However it's more of a quiet park to sit and understand how proud the Russians are of their heros that were lost. There is an eternal flame as well as a little museum.
