Good location on the mountain.
All rooms have ocean views.
The staff understands English and solves problems at any request (the adapter is plugged in, the air conditioner was noisy-they fixed it, the breakfast box was assembled for the tour in a couple of hours )
A towel for the beach should be taken at the reception.
The hotel was opened in 2018, with their humidity until 2024, it didn't take much.
Especially the elevator (I pressed the button, it remained in my hand )
There were ants in the room. But you get used to it , and the little lizard , thank God , there were no more guests .
The view is stunning over the ocean.
It takes about 10 minutes to walk to it.
No need to take breakfast. We ate on the beach. The hotel's food is so-so 😕
Bottled packaged water is provided in the room. Cleaning every day. Peacocks were met on the territory
The hotel is wonderful, despite its slightly neglected condition. We want to come again!
(We were in a room with a terrace and a Jacuzzi in early March 2024)
Among the advantages: INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL OCEAN VIEWS, silence and sounds of the jungle (no noise from the main street), proximity to the beautiful Jungle Beach (15 minutes on foot, as well as to the main beach), responsive sweet English-speaking staff. It felt like we were far away in a secluded place, although it was only 15 minutes to the very center of tourist life, and this was the perfect balance for us. We woke up to the cries of peacocks and were also pleased with the stylish minimalistic interior in the room.
Of the cons: hot water rarely appears (mostly it is just warm), plumbing in traces of lime. And for those who do not like sports: you will have to climb the mountain to the hotel (but you can get there by tuk-tuk in 7 minutes). There were also problems with the door to the terrace in the room, but at the first request everything was quickly fixed. The breakfasts are monotonous, but we had enough of everything.
I highly recommend this hotel to those who do not want to hear the engines of tuk-tuks and the screams of vacationing tourists, who need to wake up and immediately see the ocean, who like hiking in the jungle. Also, for those who are ready to shower almost in the open air (real hedonism) and for whom hot water at +35 is not particularly important.
I do not recommend the hotel to those who are not at all ready for the "imperfections" that are generally inherent in all hotels in Sri Lanka, as I understand it.
We were preparing for the worst by studying the reviews, but everything turned out to be just fine.
Thank you for a wonderful stay, Villa Thawthisa 🥰
We booked this hotel on booking. In fact, it turned out to be closed and no longer works. Upon arrival, the guard sent him to another place, said that the check-in was from the other side - I wandered along this mountain with a tuktuker, I barely found any bungalows in the jungle. The reception said that now this hotel is here. They offered to move into these bungalows in the jungle a couple of kilometers from the sea for the same price. We went to another hotel. Liars!
The hotel is well located. The rooms are interestingly made: the bathroom is on the balcony. The view from the room is impeccable. The beach is a 20-minute walk away. There are few rooms, so it's very quiet. Often there was no one else in the restaurant but us. The hotel staff has the highest rating! Very friendly and responsive.
Meals: according to the menu. The choice is not big, I really liked some dishes.
Disadvantages: small private territory. Not for family holidays.
I stayed at the Villa Thawthisa Hotel from February 4 to February 13, 2024.We were checked into the room immediately upon arrival, this room turned out to be ECO villa number 2.
It was very far from the reception to go to this house, the descents were under the stairs along unequipped steps, but this is not the most important thing. The most unpleasant thing was that the house completely did not meet our expectations! broken furniture, dirty bed linen, no safe - and this is a 4-star hotel! At our request, the next day our room was replaced with eco villa number 6. Everything was already much better here: a safe, a small kitchen, decent furniture, well, and when monkeys came to visit us on the balcony in the morning, our hearts completely thawed and we fell in love with both the hotel territory and Sri- Lanka.
The hotel has a very friendly staff, they always helped to carry things, offered a flashlight to get to the room, fulfilled all our wishes.
About breakfast . Breakfasts were held on the fourth floor of the main building (there are two types of rooms in this hotel - these are villas and the main building). The veranda had a great view of the ocean. As for the food, well, modestly, omelette or scrambled eggs, pancakes, rice or pasta, everything is very spicy. The fruits were delicious papaya, bananas and watermelons. Watermelons are small and not sweet for some reason. And there are two types of freshly squeezed juice. There were also cookies with coconut and mango added. Very tasty!
Of the advantages of the hotel, I can note that it is located away from noisy streets and on the territory of the hotel we could see many exotic animals and plants, clean air and a pleasant jungle background.
Only if you get there in the evening -it is very dark, the street is practically unlit and the road runs uphill. But it can be considered as physical exercise. A couple of kilograms were dropped.
The city beach could be reached in 7-10 minutes, but there are small waves and coarse sand. But if you want a calm ocean, go to Jungle Beach, 20 minutes from the hotel, but the road through the rocks is difficult. But a nice bonus will be a cafe on the way, with the cheapest mango juice, which is served in coconut cups.
We went on a two-day excursion "The Pearl of Sri Lanka" from Anex tour, I really liked it, but this will be a separate review.
The magnificent ocean, hospitable residents, delicious fruits - all this is Sri Lanka!
On our first visit to Sri Lanka, choosing a hotel, we compared beaches for a long time. The choice fell on the Unawatuna hotel-the first line, because of its location in a quiet bay. The second time Unawatuna was chosen by default, but the hotel was recommended in the jungle-the lovely Villa Thawthisa. Of course, I did not regret it, the service was excellent and I especially liked the "garden" surrounding the hotel with beautiful plants, animals and birds that can be observed in nature!!!
A great boutique hotel.
Cool bathroom with Jacuzzi, overlooking the pool.
The layout of the room is just fire.
Animals right on the balcony ( monkeys and gikonchiki )
A wonderful hotel, good rooms, I did not like the kitchen in general, I recommend that you take it without dinners, they do not taste good. The hotel is located on a mountain and those with joint problems will feel discomfort, but there are tuk-tuks, keep in mind👍😊 you only need to stay in the Central building in the villas it is very bad
