I accidentally found this winery via the Internet and was incredibly glad about it, because there are very few decent wineries in Abkhazia with an apparent abundance (many roadside tasting rooms, most of them of dubious quality, sell drinks). John Arlava's winery and his cellar are an amazing exception. Unlike large producers with decent wines like Chateau Abhaz, Argun and Pashta, which can be bought in supermarkets in Abkhazia, the wine that John makes cannot be found there. And it is clear why - he makes natural wine (i.e., cultural yeast races are not used, sulfur is not used for preservation), while he grows organic grapes himself, even with elements of biodynamics, preferring autochthonous varieties. Nevertheless, this is the first time I have tasted such a high-quality natural wine!
This August, we took an excursion to the vineyard, where John and Madina told us in detail about the autochthonous varieties and the story about Bajo Noir. Then we went to their "cellar", where we tasted a lot of wines. As a passionate fan of dry wine, I enjoyed drinking semi-sweet Chardonnay (I think it was Chardonnay, if my memory serves me right). French distillates are a separate topic. I was just delighted with the chacha from fiechua! As a result, they left loaded with drinks. Thanks to the guys for the hospitality, a very interesting story and wonderful drinks, believe me, this is a very high class!
Well, we treated the guys to black artisan sourdough bread brought with us from the Moscow region, which my wife makes with her own hands. Also a kind of "straight woman" but in baking.
If you want to touch the magic of making natural homemade wine, then here you are! Hospitable hosts,
homely atmosphere, gorgeous delicious tasting of fragrant real wine. The original culture of Abkhazia, very informative! Thank you ☺️
Exclusive collectible wines.
A good assortment.
From 10-year-old vermouth to young, still forming wines.
Of high-grade drinks, not only grape chacha, but also mulberry chacha, feijoa, persimmon (medicine)and even acacia trees.
Cognac that everyone who has tried it cannot forget.
And the girl Larina most likely made a mistake because there is no wine in this place for 500 rubles. And she didn't buy wine from us, but somewhere else)
