XAMK (South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences) in Mikkeli left an exceptionally positive impression as a place where the educational process is combined with technical innovation, flexibility of approach and a general atmosphere of student support. Participation in the double degree program from St. Petersburg University of Architecture and Civil Engineering in 2021 was not only a valuable academic experience, but also a bright stage in life filled with new opportunities and discoveries. The beginning of the training took place in a distance learning format, which made it possible to feel how modern and high-quality the educational process at XAMK is organized. Even then, it became clear that the university pays special attention to technical equipment, emphasizing the availability of necessary resources even in a remote format. The full-time study, which began in the fall and lasted until the end of December 2021, was a confirmation of the university's high level of training. Spacious classrooms, laboratories with modern equipment and specialized computer classes gave the impression of a thoughtful and convenient educational environment. One of the most significant differences between XAMK and the Russian education system is flexibility. The opportunity to freely borrow expensive research equipment when writing a final thesis is a unique and extremely useful aspect that greatly facilitates scientific and project activities. In my case, the thesis defense took place almost a year and a half after graduation — in 2023, but at the same time I could enjoy all student privileges, including access to laboratories and software. I especially remember the opportunity to stay in computer classes after class. This atmosphere of quiet work, surrounded by professional tools such as IDA ICE or MagiCAD, was inspiring and gave me the opportunity to focus on projects and term papers. Such evenings spent doing what you love have left fond memories. After work, you could go to the nearby S-market or Lidl for shopping — late discounts before closing added special pleasure to these everyday moments. We should also mention the financial support, which was a pleasant addition. The efforts invested in studying and learning the Finnish language have literally paid off — 2/3 of the tuition fees have been returned. This not only motivated, but also showed how much the university appreciates the efforts of its students. Participating in this program has become a valuable experience for me both professionally and personally. The memories of my time at XAMK are filled with warmth and gratitude for the opportunities provided. This university can confidently be called an example of a modern educational institution that creates all the conditions for the successful learning and development of its students.
