This is a mosque built by Sultan Suleiman for his father Sultan Selim. In the courtyard there is a mausoleum of Sultan Selim and his wife, the mother of Suleiman Hawsa Sultan. This mosque is located on one of the seven hills of the old city and offers a beautiful view of the old city and the Golden Horn. Be sure to take a look at non-touristic Istanbul!
Kanuni had it built on behalf of his father, Yavuz Sultan Selim. There is tremendous spirituality in the mosque. There is also a magnificent viewing terrace. The mausoleum is also next to it.
Sultan Selim Mosque is not as famous as Sulemaniyah, for example, but it is worth a visit Inside it is decorated in soft light beige tones, there are no crowds of tourists here, and from the observation deck you can see Sulemaniyah, Hagia Sophia and Galata Tower.
