Not far from Baku there is an unusual mountain, which is sure to be visited by tourists visiting the capital of Azerbaijan. And some travelers from Iran and India go to Azerbaijan solely for the sake of visiting this place. This mountain is called Yanardag, which means "burning mountain". The mountain is really burning, with a real fire.
Yanardag is a fiery miracle of nature in Azerbaijan
The thing is that there is a large hydrocarbon deposit on the territory of the Absheron Peninsula, on which the city of Baku and its surroundings are located. Natural gas located in the depths of Yanardag Mountain found its way out, where it ignited. This mountain is rather a hill, with a height of just over 100 meters. And the ignition of natural gas did not happen ten, not a hundred, or even five hundred years ago. As the legend says, the fire has been burning here for thousands of years.
It is beautiful, hot, there is a place to drink tea and coffee, have a snack. Buy a souvenir. Tourists are charged a lot, 2 manats if you are a citizen or have a residence permit.
The gas seems to be supplied from the pipe, because natural gas has no smell, and the one that burns in this place clearly has the smell of ODORANT.
I liked the project only for its business model - with its simplicity of implementation, it is very attractive in terms of profitability. If you go this far, you will still pay 10 manats for admission.
Yanardag - translated means fiery mountain (burning mountain). This is a natural attraction in the suburbs of Baku (distance up to 25 km). I recommend it for a visit.
The gas station employee, having found out where we were going, said: "I was born there and I don't understand why people go there." It's a pity that we didn't listen to him. Lost time and money. Azerbaijan is an amazing and very interesting country, there are many sights, there is something to see. Yanardag is not worth going there. I don't recommend it.
We wanted to see the fire after sunset. We thought it would be better. However, it turned out that in the evening everything was closed, blocked, neither to pass nor to pass. From a distance, you can see from the side. Nothing epic, just a small bonfire. It's not worth coming here.
An interesting place, definitely recommend to visit to see with your own eyes. However, the price for foreign tourists is too high, as everywhere else in azeirbajan. Entrance 9manat for foreigners.
Since the last visit , the place has been improved , the fire is not big, it is understandable that during the war it was sprinkled so that it could not be seen from the air!!! A good place, fascinating!!!
In my opinion, the only thing worth visiting is an interesting place, a natural gas leak, but in Turkmenistan there is a much more impressive point called Darvaza
There is little left of the former splendor (the depletion of the subsoil makes itself felt), but the mountain is burning, and the authorities are making efforts to equip the place. It is being improved, but maybe at the same time it loses its authenticity. But it is impossible to be in the Land of Lights and not visit Yanardag
Divorce for money. It's not worth going there. And if you really want to see it, go around the fence on the left and look for free, not for 400 rubles per person.
