A gorgeous and beautiful place. For the second time this year, my wife and I climbed there, very steep views open from a height. There is an inexhaustible well near the tower, you can always refresh yourself and drink water, but the mechanism of "extraction" of water would need to be upgraded - for some reason the pipe is tied to a bucket, it is not very convenient to get it, it is easier when just a chain. The recommendation to everyone is to put on sneakers for going there, do not kill your feet in slippers and slates and your sandals (for madame). The climb is quite steep in places, especially at the beginning of the journey, but it's worth it, the whole New Athos is in the palm of your hand from above
It's a very atmospheric place.
For those who want to see an overview of the entire New Athos- the maximum recommendation.
From the recommendations :
• it is best to allocate at least 5-6 hours to this place, and that's why: From the payment post (the cost is 300 rubles for adults, for children (we have preschoolers) for free - the path is 1200 meters along the road strictly up. Many may not be ready for this. Those who plan to walk all the way from below - another plus, probably the same amount.
• stock up on plenty of water, especially if the sun is scorching (in our case). You can replenish the water balance at the top when you get to the fortress. There is a spring there.
• for motorists, there may not be enough places. Be prepared to park along a rocky cliff or as close to the rocks as possible, as the road is very narrow. If you are an insecure motorist, be prepared for such a turn of events))
An ancient fortress near New Athos. An interesting location with cool views. It is better to take a taxi to the gate. You can walk, but it's very hard. Only good shoes, better not in the heat. From the gate (ticket office) hiking along stone roads. The views are gorgeous. You can climb the tower, collect special water from the cistern, look into the ruined temple. Take the time to visit.
One of the most memorable places for me in Abkhazia! Although it was not easy to get there, it was far and hard to walk (it is best to get up at dawn or at sunset, so that it would not be hot), but it was worth it! And the reward was impressive - the vast Abkhazian expanses opening at the top, the lofty Anakopian tower, the ancient Christian temple of the 6th century and the most important thing that surprised me most was an inexhaustible source of clean water, such an unprecedented thing at such a high altitude! We refreshed ourselves , admired and were impressed! I advise everyone to get in there!
We went up to the fortress on foot, from the entrance to the New Athos cave. The climb is sometimes very steep! It takes about 30 minutes to walk to the ticket booth. The road is sometimes open to the sun, sometimes there is a shadow. We paid the money for the entrance, 300 rubles each, (they didn't give out tickets, I wonder where and to whom the money went??) and we bought a brochure about the fortress. Let's go further: the road became a path, then a bumpy path in places, rises in loops to the top of the mountain, to a height of about 350 m. Taking our time and photographing the views, we walked for about 45 minutes. Ruins of walls, remains of fortress towers, views of the coast - there is something to admire! The ruins of the citadel at the top of the mountain are very impressive! There are many beautiful places. The observation deck at the top of the restored tower, climbing the internal stairs, is quite steep. The views are amazing! And on the territory of the citadel there is an inexhaustible well and a chapel, significant places for Orthodox pilgrims. I pulled out a bucket of water, not easy, but quite possible! As a result: an interesting place, I definitely recommend visiting it in good weather!
Climbing the walls of the fortress is quite difficult, especially in the heat, but it's worth it. The fortress that has survived to our times is truly magnificent. The observation deck offers stunning views of the mesmerizing mountains and the endless sea. The feeling that you can reach the clouds with your hand. On the territory of the fortress there is a small chapel and an inexhaustible spring with cool water. A lot of emotions and unforgettable impressions are provided.
The place is very atmospheric. For a leisurely walk with your family, it is better to lay at least 3 hours. The ascent and descent take quite a long time. The territory of the fortress itself is not very large. The view from above of the sea and New Athos is very beautiful! There is a well with drinking water upstairs, you can replenish the supply of drinking water.
A gorgeous place to meet the sunrise or sunset wire.
It didn't work out for us, not with the heyday, not with the sunset, but we got up in the morning so as not to get hot.
The Anakopian fortress is located on the Iverskaya Mountain at an altitude of 344 meters above sea level.
Once it was the most beautiful city on the Black Sea coast, a fortress city - the capital of the Abkhazian kingdom, the residence of the Abkhazian kings, surrounded on all sides by several defensive lines, a powerful and impregnable structure that witnessed many bloody battles. An early medieval dilapidated temple is located inside.
A sedimentary well adjoins the temple. It is hollowed out of the rock and lined with limestone stone. In ancient times, rainwater was collected from the roofs into it, nowadays water comes from the formation of condensate on the cold walls of the tank from warm moist air masses.
Climbing the Iverskaya mountain, we find ourselves at the ancient structure of the Anakopian fortress.
Very beautiful views throughout the entire uphill climb and, of course, at the very top of the fortress.
The walking road will require strength.
A good place to walk and explore the history.
A very beautiful view opens from the walls of the fortress from the mountain.
Entrance is paid.
I went up the mountain on foot, the road is interesting, but long, you can go by car.
One of the attractions of New Athos,1200-1300 m from the entrance gate, all uphill, but along the way there are benches and stumps for those who find it difficult to climb, you can relax and enjoy the air.We walked slowly.Beautiful views and a spring at the top (grab a small container, you can drink and take pleasure with you.Minus - there is no parking for cars (there is very little space)We were in August 2024 , it was a bit hot , probably we would have walked longer in the spring
It's a bit hard to climb up to the fortress, you need to have comfortable shoes. There are places to relax along the way. You can face the problem of parking on your car. The parking lot is too small. But the view from the fortress to the coast is gorgeous. The entire coast of Abkhazia is visible. It is definitely worth a visit.
If you are a lover of outdoor activities and hiking, then you definitely need to visit this place.
Be prepared for the fact that the climb will not be very easy because air humidity and temperature play a role.
Take comfortable shoes.
There will be beautiful views throughout the route, and at the very top you will find a well with delicious water.
Admission costs 200 rubles per person. If you pay for parking in your car, there is no price for an hour or two hours. You pay 300 rubles and stay as long as you want (the cost of parking is standard everywhere)
There are the most beautiful views! Be sure to come up!Upstairs, in addition to the main tower, there is also a small chapel with icons, there are also candles and a handkerchief, if you forgot.
But keep in mind that as soon as it starts to get dark, the tower is closed because there is no lighting throughout the territory. So count on the time.
It delights with its architecture and spiritual atmosphere. There is a special silence and tranquility inside, which creates an amazing feeling of deep peace and inner harmony. Quad biking at Quadro Pedro was a nice addition to my trip. It was an exciting opportunity to explore the surroundings and enjoy the beauty of nature.
It is a beautiful and historical place. The identity of the place has been preserved. I recommend you to visit. The views are wonderful, you can take very good photos. The ascent is comfortable, unhurried)
The road to the top is first by car, narrow and steep, there are a lot of cars during the day, paid parking is clogged. Further on foot, entrance is paid, 300 adults, children under 12 are free.
Climbing up the rocky trails. You need good shoes. You can go straight not along the serpentine, but up the rocks, steeper, but much faster. Toilets are conditional... Holes in the abyss...
a well at the top of the fortress, you can cool off. The view from the tower is amazing! Almost the whole of Abkhazia is visible.
A gorgeous place! Mind-blowing views.
New Athos is in the palm of your hand!
Yes, of course it takes a long time to climb, and not everyone will be able to do it, especially in the heat. But those who reach the top and, in particular, the fortress itself, receive a truly generous reward. Such an indescribably beautiful panorama is rarely seen!
I definitely advise those who will be in New Athos to visit this place.
The road is difficult! High rise. But the place delights with its history. The building is 5-6 centuries old. I can't imagine how at that time it was possible to deliver and build at such a height.
He praised the old temple. A well in which water appears for unknown reasons. The water is clean and delicious.
There is a large fig tree near the temple. Locals say if you go around it and make a wish, it will definitely come true. I consider a fortress, a temple, a well to be some kind of magical place.
Although the parking lot is small. But this place is definitely worth a visit, a walk to the top is not the easiest, but the view that opens from the top is simply fascinating. There is a well with water on top. And it is not necessary to walk along the paths, it is fashionable to cut well, saving time. But it's harder to walk.
For a physically prepared person, lifting is not difficult. Many people go with children and dogs - this, of course, increases the time of ascent. For those who are unsure of their abilities, I advise you to take a taxi (300rubles). It will take you to the ticket office - this is a significant part of the way. The entrance is 200₽. The rest of the climb will have to be overcome independently. In some places, you can take a shortcut and climb directly up the steep ascent, but this is definitely not for everyone. The views are picturesque. You can see not only the fortress itself, but also the remains of an ancient temple (a salted place, many icons, you can buy and put a candle), as well as a spring with water.
I like this place, although it's not the first time there. From the New Athos caves, we drive to the left to the paid parking lot (300r), pay 500r for entry and go up the serpentine for 30-40 minutes, it is important to make it before sunset, otherwise the main tower is closed and you will not get there. The fortress was built as a defensive one according to all the principles of construction at that time. Around the fortress there are stone walls, the main observation tower, barracks with storage, a storehouse and an underground water source. Come in the evening to meet the sunset. The view of the city and the sea is extraordinary😍
A place for lovers of hiking 😁
The ascent is quite difficult, rocky terrain and height differences for an unprepared person can be a real test..but at the top you will find a well with incredibly delicious water, which will immediately relieve signs of fatigue.
We went up to the roof of the fortress itself, from there there are just incredible views! Being here, one feels some kind of peace and tranquility..
There is also a temple on the top.
I recommend you to visit. It is advisable to go in comfortable shoes and a headdress - we were in May and the sun, to be honest, was baking well. You can take an empty bottle with you and draw water from the well, we did not take this into account, but it may be useful for someone.
The breathtaking view of the mountains and the sea is worth the effort spent climbing. At the top you will find an ancient fortress, a tower, an ancient temple, and a well with clean water, in the middle of the way there is a toilet opposite the ticket office and a drink sale.
If you want to admire the Abkhazian coast from a height, then I strongly advise you to visit this fortress.
It will take about forty minutes to climb the mountain from the parking lot. Of course, it will not be a walk along the embankment, but it is real for any age. There are many places along the way where you can sit and relax in the shade of the pines. In addition, there are no bus tours here, so you don't have to jostle and wait in line to take great photos
A great place for a tourist to visit in Abkhazia. Take comfortable shoes, carry-on luggage in a backpack. You can get to the place of payment by car, you should not walk from the cave. Take money with you, entrance is paid. There is a holy spring in the fortress. You can take a bottle for a supply of water.
Definitely worth a visit. Great view, interesting ruins. The main tower is largely rebuilt on the old foundation, but it does not spoil the impression much.
The climb is quite long and tedious, in extreme heat and clear weather it can be difficult.
We recently visited this fortress, rented a car. We use the navigator to get to the parking lot, then walk uphill along the serpentine, 40-50 minutes. Entrance is paid. But it's worth it. There is a well with life-giving water on the mountain, you can drink it, and it's already free. We also climb the tower and see the beauty from a height. After that, you can go down and take a walk in the park, there is also a famous waterfall.
The view of the city of New Athos from the top, which can be climbed, is simply amazing. In addition, the height difference here is quite large, which allows you to appreciate the beauty of the sea.
The fortress is interesting, worth a visit. We were here with 2 children of 5 and 8 years old, the children got up almost without problems. It is better to take water with you. There is a well in the fortress, you can pour water on the way back. The ticket price is 300 rubles for an adult, children under 7 years old are free of charge.
A long climb up the mountain encourages you with delicious and cold water from the well. The fortress is small, but there are many places for photos. The ancient temple with icons looks very atmospheric.
How to get there: by car on the navigator, drive through the parking lot near the New Athos cave, and then turn left and up the road. Stop at the fortress parking lot (200r), then walk up 1300m (entrance fee, 300r). Right behind the entrance, guides are sitting on the path, 1000 rubles per group, regardless of the number of people. It is interesting to talk about the history of the fortress. In general, let it not be difficult to get to the top. There is a toilet at the entrance to the fortress itself (for information). The territory offers magnificent views of New Athos. I definitely recommend you to visit.
Stunning views for those who like to walk.
For those who do not like - they are the same, but after a long process of climbing)
A historical fortress on the top of the mountain. Any guide, minibus driver, or just a local resident, will tell you the story of how three thousand defenders of the fortress defended themselves from a twenty-fold superior army, and won.
The fortress itself is in a moderately ruined state. In 2023, repairs are visible, for better or worse, after all, freshly repaired walls stand out strongly from the rest.
You need to climb to the fortress - about half an hour from the cafe, where you can take a taxi for 300 rubles, or an hour from the New Athos cave. The climb itself is quite steep. Entrance is paid, our visit costs 300 rubles per person. There is a spring at the top (!) where you can drink and get water.
Overall, it's a good place to visit during the daytime, if you don't mind walking uphill for half an hour.
From the entrance to the cave complex, you can walk to the ticket office in the fortress. The road, of course, is steep, although asphalt, the views are amazing. From the serpentine ticket office to the fortress
I can't say that the fortress is anything out of the ordinary. The views are generally attractive. What I especially liked is that there is an amazing inexhaustible well inside, in which you can repeatedly remove thirst. However, the impression of the well can be spoiled by "amazing" people who seek to wash their bodies and the bodies of all their household in it.
The most beautiful place was in Abkhazia. It's getting prettier and prettier with every step. Bomb types) . I have no doubt that there are more interesting places in Abkhazia, but I did not have time to see everything)
The views here are stunning and mesmerizing!
If you decide to climb in the summer, it is better to do it at 5 a.m. or in the evening. We got up at 7 it was already very hot, probably unbearable at lunchtime.
It's worth a walk, for a warm-up on vacation) the views are beautiful, the well is working, the place is being monitored, benches along the way, clean. There are good-natured songs at the top
This place is perfect for an independent leisurely walk. And at the top, as a reward, you get a wonderful view of new Athos and the sea, and on the other side of the mountain!
Actually, the tower and the fortress are one historical complex, which includes 2 lines of fortress walls, ruins of a temple and cells, a well and 2 towers, one of which has been restored. Beautiful views and a place of pilgrimage. I recommend it!
- there is no equipped parking, there is a fee for somehow squeezing the car along the road at the foot of the mountain.
+ a good route for outdoor enthusiasts, a beautiful view from the mountain to the city and the sea
Magnificent commanding height! A dizzying view and ancient-breathing stones! It definitely needs to be seen.
I definitely recommend you to visit. The capital of the ancient kingdom.
Gorgeous!
They charge an entrance
fee of 300 rubles /person
Parking is paid 200 rubles
Going is cool
But passable
There is a beautiful view from the fortress
And on the coast
And on the BKH
There is a well with delicious water
We went in at 8:30
There were no tax collectors
So we saved money)
She calls and beckons me to her every time) Do not be lazy to walk up for 20 minutes, from the observation tower you can enjoy beautiful views of the city, mountains and the sea. And every stone of the fortress "breathes" a centuries-old history
I really liked it, we love the mountains. This is a place for those who are afraid to climb steeper and more dangerous climbs, but they want to see the sea and mountains from a bird's eye view. The ascent is comfortable, the road is wide and without a steep ascent, it takes 40 minutes to climb (this is if you don't hurry at all) A steep ascent only at the beginning of the way on asphalt, but it's not long at all, there are places to rest on the way, there is a place to take a breath and there is a place to hide from the sun, there are a lot of trees along the way. The way is beautiful and the place itself is highly recommended to visit
A very beautiful place, the view of the mountains and the sea from the tower is 360°, just amazing. Plus, there is a small spring and a chapel on the top, which is also very atmospheric.
The entrance fee is 300 rubles. The ascent is not very long and rather gentle – people walk with young children and elderly relatives.
If you are in good shape, you can climb out of the city, this is also an interesting and enjoyable experience, but it requires some endurance.
We arrived at the cave by car. We paid for parking. After the cave, we ate in a cafe that is located almost at the exit. It is quite a long walk from the cave to the fortress. We reached the halfway point of the climb by car. And they paid for parking again. Even this part of the climb was enough for me and the children. It's hot, so it's hard enough for children. Going up to the fortress, you can take a plastic bottle with you. In the fortress, you can get cool water from the well. Which is very pleasant in the heat.
If you didn't take it, it's okay. There are buckets near the well from which you can drink. The view of the sea and the surrounding area from the fortress is very beautiful.
I put a three for the "bureaucracy" of local government!
I drove the car further than the parking lot, in order to scout out if there is a specific place further than the fortress. But alas, the road goes downhill there.
I decided to leave the car there behind the mountain on an empty lot. And returned on foot. I go to the ticket office and they tell me: entrance is 200 rubles, parking is 300 rubles. What do you mean, parking? I came on foot!
- we saw you driving by in a car!
- That's right! By! I didn't leave it in your parking lot! You can see it with your own eyes. She's not in sight!
- No, but you came by car, not on an excursion... 300₽ parking.
They discouraged all desire to climb to this fortress…
I'm not arguing. The entrance is 200₽. Democratically, this money is used to take care of the cultural heritage of Mount Athos. Parking, I don't argue. You have equipped it, paved it - you have the right to charge money for it. But if a person puts a car not in your parking lot, and you're trying to make money for it... guys. You are bureaucrats.
Anakopia is an interesting historical place that struck us with its antiquity, scale and views. It is not easy to climb the mountain from the parking lot, especially in the heat. It is better to wear sneakers, as the road is rocky. There is a well with consecrated water at the top, in the walls of the towers, the temple and under the shade of the trees you can find coolness to relax. The walls of the 10th century Orthodox church are a place of pilgrimage. After visiting the fortress, it is interesting to look at its historical significance on YouTube.
It's a great place. We got up with our daughter at 7.00 in the morning, so as not to get too hot. It took about 30 minutes to get from the cash register to the top. There were no people yet. The view is gorgeous. You get into the history of this place. We got a lot of impressions.
