I had some troubles to get there, since Yandex maps was showing a path that was either closed or inexistent. Some locals showed me how to get there, and from below the fortress appears very beautiful. Though, from the top there is not much to see, the city doesn't offer such great views. There were also two stray dogs barking, but asking them politely they let me through. You cannot reach the edges of the fortress, so you can see mainly some hills (great) and Georgia's flags.
It's a very energetic place
It is strange that the Georgian authorities do not take care of this place in any way. Although this is the main local thing in the city. There is a lot of garbage inside, little is equipped, in fact, it looks more like an abandoned building at the top. But that's what freedom comes from.
I hope that there will be more attention to this place.
You can stop by on the way. Today it is rather the remains of walls and a fortress, but it is expensive to look at the city of Gori and the surrounding area from above. There you can also visit the local bazaar, which is exactly different from the capital and large cities, because This is a province. If desired, someone can visit Stalin's house, there is also a monument to him young.
The fortress is a real medieval citadel, but everything remains at the stage of reconstruction, it's worth a look because of the view around, but you shouldn't expect more.
It's a beautiful place, you can climb the stairs, the views are amazing. There are also many interesting things around the fortress, a park, a church, monuments
We parked on the ring nearby, there seems to be free parking. We walked along the residential buildings, where the dogs attacked in a pack (did they smell the Russians), a stone throw (there are many of them) towards the pack, cooled their mood. We climbed to the top of the fortress and were a little disappointed, there was one pit for animals and huge flags. The watchman has disappeared somewhere. In general, a large stone abandoned pile.Going down to the park of the bronze family (this side is better ennobled), we met two couples in turn. The first m / w, stuck to the bench in passion ..., did not even bother them, and they did not even notice us.near the bronze family, a couple, somehow in broken Russian, explained about the bronze figures and led them to a stand about Russia's attack on Georgia. We disagreed with each other's understanding that it was the politicians' fault...The smell of Marya Ivanovna was clearly audible in the air.
An interesting monument, but it is located at the foot of the fortress on the other hand, if not for the navigator, you can not find it. I would like it to be brought to a better look and there was a pointer. And so such an interesting place and as if abandoned
The ruins of the walls are on a hill in the center of the city, but the entrance is free and the view from above of the city is wonderful, so driving past it is worth stopping for an hour or two.
It is not difficult to climb the fortress hill. There is nothing to see in the fortress itself yet, reconstruction work is underway, but the view from the walls is magnificent.
