A cute zoo founded back in the nineteenth century, when Suomi was part of Russia. The first animals were brown bears imported from Karelia. Its location is very unusual - on the island of Korkeasaari. A wonderful place if you plan to spend an interesting and informative unforgettable day with your child in the capital of Finland. In the summer season, it is best to get from the center of Helsinki to Sila by a small passenger ferry (water bus). It departs from one of the piers of the Market Square from the beginning of May to the end of September. The territory is large, and good conditions have been created for animals. I recommend visiting the Pukki restaurant. Overall, there were positive emotions.
Korkeasaari Zoo is a great place to walk with your family. The territory is large, green (in summer), birds (including peacocks) walk with visitors along the same paths and lawns.
But there are not so many animals in the zoo, especially in cold weather it is difficult to see anyone: everyone is hiding in their homes.
There are promotions when admission is free.
Not a very big zoo, but an extremely thoughtful one. It is convenient to observe animals, it is pleasant to walk around the island. And the tropical animals section is just amazing! You walk through the pavilion, and plants are around you, birds fly over you (and there are also birds on the paths), behind the glass you can see the small inhabitants of the jungle. Amazing!
A unique zoo, located on one of the islands in Helsinki. You can get here by bus or ferry. At the entrance you get a free card, including in Russian, and you can walk as much as you want. Guided events are held near the cages of some animals at different hours, so you need to keep an eye on the schedule. Meals at the zoo in the cafe are very expensive (a hamburger with French fries, a salad and two drinks cost 35 euros). It is very windy on the territory, it may rain at any moment, and there is almost nowhere to hide, so you need to take care of warm clothes. There are several free toilets on site, all marked on the map.

The zoo is located on the island, the conditions are really close to natural, the landscape is beautiful, there are playgrounds and places where you can have a snack and relax. There are surprisingly few animals in winter, the smallest of all zoos, for example, in the St. Petersburg Zoo in winter, many animals can be viewed indoors, but in Finnish there is no such thing, although the zoo territory is certainly impressive
I was very impressed by two things when visiting this zoo:
- we were traveling in early spring from the train station on a regular bus and a group of small Finnish schoolchildren, 8-10 years old, sat down with us, somewhere like that. And among these northern blond children, two dark-skinned girls stood out sharply. To my question about their nationality, I received a quick and clear answer - we are Finns.
- and secondly, for the first time I saw a large aviary in which the inhabitants of Central Asia, kulans, camels and Przewalski's horse grazed. They could be viewed from almost 360 degrees, and not only from the front, through a grate, fence, or whatever it is in St. Petersburg (then this type of review appeared in our zoo for tigers). Then it seemed to me that these animals feel almost free: a large area of the enclosure, humane. You need to come to this zoo in the summer, or even better, sail by boat from the center of Helsinki. The zoo is being modernized all the time, something is being added, the cafe is quite diverse and delicious.
Those whose hearts bleed when they see animals languishing in cages in ordinary zoos may well come here. And here, on the island, in the spacious aviaries, their eyes are not even so sad.
Beautiful zoo on the island. The animals look good, smooth and generally happy with life. In winter, however, there is no ferry service, but bus No. 16 runs there from the station - on average, once every 20 minutes. Anyway, in winter, a lot of things inside the zoo are closed, so 4 out of 5

We visited the zoo in January, I think we lost money... 2/3 empty enclosures with a minimum of animals, apparently it's cold. No owls, no deer. But the places are beautiful.
You need to go in the summer, when all the animals are there. And it should be very beautiful. The very feeling of having a zoo on the island is wonderful)
