Thanks to Tatiana Yurievna Afanasyeva, director of the State Institution "National Historical Archive of Belarus in Grodno" in 2017, and Alla Stanislavovna Bombel, an employee of the archive!
Any step in the Russian and Belarusian archives is, as a rule, either unsubscriptions or money in astronomical amounts that absolutely do not correspond to either the labor costs or the average income of the Russian population. This is especially true for RGIA, RGVIA and NARB in Minsk. Not a single major Russian and Belarusian archive, whose price lists officially declare a paid service: "Paleographic translation from a foreign language", has become puzzled by paleographic translation from Latin and Old Polish into modern Russian for money.
What was my relief when, upon request to the NIAB branch in Grodno, they replied that they did not translate documents from other archives for a fee, but they would try to help for free in a human way: send your metric records, let's see if it is possible to translate. Alla Stanislavovna Bombel translated six metric records of various sizes into two A4 pages from Latin and Old Polish for me. Just for a second, I'm a stranger to her, someone she's never seen in her life. When asked how much I should pay, the director of the archive, Tatyana Yurievna Afanasyeva, wrote - not how much. If I want, I can write a written thank you to Alla Stanislavovna addressed to Tatiana Yurievna. Of course, my conscience did not allow me to limit myself to a written thank you, and I sent a small parcel. Nevertheless, I still felt distress for a long time. How unusual it is to have a kind human attitude when you get used to the need to achieve everything with effort, perseverance and willpower. Thanks!

It's a pleasure to work in the reading room. Quietly. The employees are very happy, they can tell you a lot. There are no breaks in work during the day. It is very convenient for nonresidents to work, you can make an order, and receive it the next day.

The most pleasant impressions from working with the archive in Grodno! At first, she applied remotely by making a genealogical request. We found everything!!! They sent a copy by e-mail as I asked, and an envelope with a letter home: It looks so cute, I didn't want to let it out of my hands. It felt like even my address was carefully signed by a caring person, an employee of this archive.
Then I came to Grodno to work independently in the reading room, found the information I was looking for about my great-grandfather and our other relatives in the metric books. Very friendly staff, helped in everything, as a result, I managed to do everything planned.

One day I found a video on YouTube about this archive and subsequently saw that in reality everything is even better, more professional and more sincere than when you see it on the screen.
