One of the most interesting places in Crete (except Knossos, of course, even without competition) for me was the Venetian fortress on the hill of Poliokastro. This is her second version, since the first fortress was destroyed in 1571 during a raid by Muslim pirates led by Uluj Ali, who, by the way, is said to have been Italian. I got to this location by car, that's where the parking issue is at an unprecedented height, but I coped.. I have satisfied my historical needs for knowledge, it is very interesting. And beautiful views from the walls of the fortress!
